Command Center Physician (INTERNAL IUHMG ONLY)

About the Role Indiana University Health seeks a Command Center Physician to provide clinical leadership and decision support within the System Operations Center (SOC). The role aims to optimize interfacility patient transfers and placement across the health system by using real‑time, systemwide capacity and acuity data. Responsibilities Conduct clinical triage and advise on placement decisions for patients across the system. Facilitate communication between referring and receiving providers, clinical nurse expeditors, transfer center nurses, bed‑management teams, and hospital‑based clinical leaders to reduce transfer‑related delays. Design, build, and refine SOC protocols, escalation pathways, and triage guidelines during early implementation. Identify operational barriers to efficient patient flow and partner with operational, clinical, and financial leaders to improve system performance. Contribute to ongoing evaluation and improvement of SOC operations, providing recommendations that enhance workflow, support data‑driven decision‑making, and improve access, outcomes, and resource utilization. Position Highlights Schedule: 10 am – 6 pm, 1/2 or full week consecutively, approximately every 8 weeks. Compensation: $200 per hour; hours do not count toward departmental goals or incentives. Location: Transfer Center, Indianapolis. Target Start: Scattered orientation shifts available in Q3 2026, with full‑time commitment starting in Q4 2026. Qualifications Hospitalist or Emergency Medicine physicians currently employed by IUHMG. Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
