Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring at least 2 years of experience including direct Med/Surg experience, with a focus on neuro and stroke patient care on a 12-hour night shift schedule.

Details

• Hospital Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a 42-bed daily census
• Primary patient population includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neuro diagnoses
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), though travelers are not typically assigned to the EMU unless specifically trained
• Patient ratio is 1:6
• 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Travelers are required to work every other weekend
• Floating is required to other Med/Surg Tele areas, which may include COVID care units
• EMR systems used: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (license pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
• Current certifications required: BLS, NIH, NIHSS; ACLS preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Med/Surg neuro experience required
• Proficiency in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts (first-time travelers will not be considered)
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 12 months are highly preferred

Additional Information

• 36-hour unit orientation provided, with weekly orientation schedule
• Pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed annually; modules are delivered via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved provided it does not fall on a holiday
• If a traveler calls out of a scheduled shift, they are expected to make up that shift within the same week or at the end of the contract; missed weekend shifts must also be made up based on unit needs
• Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP staff employee of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
• Travel pairs are welcome, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
• Navy scrubs are required
• Contracts of longer than 13 weeks may be available for interested candidates
