HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC HELPER

Position Overview Semiskilled work below the journeyman level in servicing and repairing a variety of heavy automotive equipment. Essential Functions Change oil, filters, and other fluids in heavy equipment (trucks, loaders, bulldozers, cranes). Perform minor repairs and replacement work such as adjusting points, cleaning, and replacing spark plugs. Assist heavy equipment mechanics in lifting or lowering heavy parts and removing or installing automotive equipment. Remove defective parts such as starters, generators, water pumps, and radiators. Perform general service on all types of heavy‑duty equipment, including dismantling equipment for repairs. Change tires, repair flats, and perform battery and fuel service on a variety of heavy equipment. Operate fuel delivery trucks to deliver gasoline, diesel fuel, and/or miscellaneous lubricants to city facilities. Operate service trucks to make minor repairs and change or add tires, batteries, and gasoline. Assist in removing engines and other assemblies for overhaul or replacement. Assist in automotive body‑work and preparing equipment for painting. Grease and lubricate bulldozers, cranes, trucks, street sweepers, and other heavy equipment. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent and at least six months of semiskilled work in automotive repair and maintenance at a garage. Possession of a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or higher. An X endorsement on the CDL may be required. Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six months of the required experience. Equity Statement An Equal Opportunity Employer.
