Major duties include setting up stations with supplies and food items, serving food cafeteria style, breaking down and cleaning stations, setting up dining room tables, returning soiled trays and dishes, delivering meal trays to patients, preparing beverages, preparing fresh fruit and cold salads, providing assistance to cooks, operating and cleaning equipment, portioning food items, preparing boxed meals, selecting and placing items on patient trays, reading and interpreting menus and diet cards, identifying discrepancies between prescribed diets and food items, performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks, separating food waste, unloading food carts, storing sanitized dishes, scraping and scrubbing cookware, and moving garbage cans.

Work Schedule: 11:00AM-7:30PM; Days may vary. 20 hours.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well-lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.
