$51.05 - $76.60Major Responsibilities: Develops, implements, manages, and evaluates nursing practice, operations and services to assure quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness. 1)Assumes 24 hour responsibility for the daily clinical and administrative functions of the nursing unit to ensure the desired level of operating efficiency. 2)Maintain efficient and effective departmental operations, ensuring the availability of necessary staff, supplies and equipment. 3)Establish staffing requirement and plan for appropriate utilization of human resources by assessing caseload, acuity, and complexity of patients. 4)Facilitate care delivery in conjunction with the patient centered philosophy of care model. 5)Utilize evidence based practice to improve care processes, structures, and measurement of patient centered outcomes and satisfaction. 6)Support and facilitate care management activities to facilitate quality patient outcomes 7)Facilitate smooth coordination of inter-departmental services. Responsible for the selection, development, motivation, and evaluation of staff. 1)Recruits, selects, mentors, and motivates direct reports to achieve patient centered care, professional, and personnel goals and objectives 2)Assist and support staff in developing and maintaining competency through orientation, educational offerings, workshops, interdisciplinary meetings and self-directed learning. Maintain and analyze data to assure staff development activities offered on the unit are of high quality and meet the needs of the staff. 3)Conducts performance evaluations in a timely manner 4)Provides coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions, as appropriate. 5)Assists staff with identifying professional and educational goals and provides opportunities to support achievement of the goals. 6)Encourage staff to seek additional knowledge and skill by pursuing formal education, certification, and other professional development opportunities and participation in professional organizations. 7)Follow established processes for receiving and resolving associate complaints and concerns. 8)Promotes an understanding and effective use of organizational, management, and nursing theories and research 9)Develop and mentor associates to create and support a professional practice environment based on principles of shared governance 10)Facilitates staff meetings relating to dissemination of information regarding department(s), hospital, and system activities. Preparation, administration, and monitoring of departmental budget to ensure personnel, facilities, and supplies. 1)Plans and prepares the operating budget for the department including appropriate FTEs and supplies based on projected growth targets. 2)Exercises cost control by using all available data provided to monitor, evaluate and adjust actual expenses compared to budget. 3)Adjusts staffing to meet budget requirements by monitoring productivity of staffing, patient acuity, and volume. 4)Monitors department productivity levels and workforce design to ensure proper resource utilization and role delineation. 5)Analyzes monthly financial, operational, and budget variance reports to assure that financial goals are achieved. 6)Provides input into capital requests for the department and the division of nursing 7)Identifies areas for improvemed operational efficiencies and involves staff in the development of new processes as appropriate. Maintenance of effective working relationships with internal and external contacts by fostering team building, peer support, and respect 1)Collaborates with Physicians, leadership, and other health care professionals to assure delivery of quality care, patient satisfaction, and continual use of area services. 2)Actively participate and/or lead system/site committees and projects. 3)Partner with peers to assure administrative and clinical standards are integrated with department and hospital services. 4)Network with professionals within Advocate and other health care facilities regarding clinical standards and best practices. 5)Actively coordinate inter-departmental activities in order to meet and/or exceed patient perceptions of care and services. Promote continous quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical standards 1)Engage staff in unit based performance improvement activities 2)Develop and incorporate performance improvement projects utilizing the PDSA model to plan, implement, study, and act upon the outcome. 3)Conduct special projects and studies related to area activities, goals and/or objectives. 4)Develop and implement policies and procedures to assure effective and efficient processes, protocols, and guidelines that are aligned with Advocate Health Care's mission, vision, and philisophy. 5)Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accrediting bodies and agencies (ie. IDPH, CAP, and DNV) 6)Consistently review patient satisfaction data and implement continuous performance improvement strategies (ie. consistency, connection, and accountabilty). 7)Incorporate performance improvement results with feedback to staff in a variety of forums (ie staff meetings, huddles, unit dashboards, etc.) Responsible for personal and professional growth and development. 2)Participates in activities to enhance professional growth by involvement in professional organizations and continuing education. 3)Maintains memberships in professional and community organizations as applicable. 1)Keeps abreast of current standards of care and new business and technology developments via internal/external networking and resources. Licensure: Nurse, Registered (RN) Education/Experience Required: -BSN -5 years of clinical experience -3 years of leadership experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: -Organizational planning and delegation skill -Proficient communication, team building, and leadership skills -Basic computer knowledge and skills -Strong drive to achieve superior results -Current RN license in the state of Illinois -BLS (CPR) required -ACLS preferred Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: -Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations -Ability to prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests -Ability to work weekends and off-shifts, etc, to meet departmental needs -May be exposed to bodily fluids, hazardous materials or life threatening diseases. -Ability to travel to other Advocate facilities in order to attend meetings. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
