We are seeking an exceptional Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeon with expertise and dedicated interest in cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery. This role presents a unique opportunity to lead and expand advanced cardiovascular surgical services for companion animals while contributing to clinical research and teaching future veterinary leaders.

Working closely with specialists across Cardiology, Interventional Radiology, Anesthesiology, Emergency & Critical Care, Diagnostic Imaging, and Internal Medicine, you will play a central role in establishing a nationally recognized veterinary cardiac surgery program.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform advanced cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgical procedures for canine and feline patients with congenital and acquired conditions. Collaborate closely with cardiology teams on case evaluation, treatment planning, and long-term care. Participate in a 1:9 clinical emergency rotation with eight other surgeons.
• Help establish clinical pathways, quality metrics, and outcomes assessment programs to grow a premier cardiovascular service. Drive the expansion of hybrid surgical-interventional procedures.
• Engage in clinical, translational, and outcomes-based research. Publish findings, present at national/international conferences, and pursue grant or philanthropic research opportunities in collaboration with internal and external academic partners.
• Direct teaching and supervision of surgery residents, rotating interns, specialty interns, and visiting veterinarians through lectures, clinical rounds, and case-based instruction.
• Act as a key clinical resource for referring veterinarians across the region. Represent the hospital at professional conferences and support referral network initiatives.

Qualifications

• DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.
• Board Certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or equivalent international surgical specialty college.
• Demonstrated expertise in advanced thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in New York State.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.

• Fellowship training or substantial clinical experience in veterinary cardiac surgery.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with interventional cardiology services.
• Proven track record of scholarly publications and clinical research.
• Experience in intern and resident training within an academic or specialty hospital setting.
