Field Technician: Floating Fountains & Aeration

Field Technician Overview: The Floating Fountain & Aerator Field Technician installs, commissions, troubleshoots, and maintains surface aerators, decorative floating fountains, diffused aeration systems, control panels, and lighting on ponds, lakes, and stormwater basins. The role blends hands-on electrical/mechanical work, safe small-boat operations, and customer service to keep water features reliable, attractive, and compliant with safety and environmental goals. Typical brands include Kasco, Otterbine, and AquaMaster.

Field Technician Pay: $25 - $30/hr DOE (Minneapolis, MN)

Field Technician Shift: Monday - Friday days

Field Technician Key Requirements:

• 3+ years of field service of electrical, mechanical, pumping equipment installation and maintenance. Potable water wells, stormwater or sewage pumping systems, marine systems, irrigation, or related specialties; OEM pump station, fountain and aerator equipment experience is preferred.
  
  
• Technical Skills: Read blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams; measure voltage/current; terminate conductors; set/two-pole test GFCI-protected circuits; facility with timers and controls such as variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  
  
• Basic rigging, knot-tying, mooring/anchoring, and small-boat handling; trailer backing.
  
  
• Mechanical aptitude and puzzle-solving skills.
  
  
• Understanding of OSHA electrical safety, LOTO, "working over or near water" lifesaving provisions, and permit-required confined spaces
  
  
• Valid driver's license with clean MVR; ability and desire to obtain & maintain required (Minnesota) AIS Lake Service Provider (LSP) permit and other credentials.

Preferred Credentials

• State Power Limited Technician license or Journeyman Electrician.
  
  
• OEM service certifications.
  
  
• Boating safety; CPR/First Aid; Confined Space Entry training.

Material Handler Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble, float, moor/anchor, and level in-pond equipment; install nozzles, screens, and lighting kits. Verify correct rotation, spray pattern, and amperage draw.
  
  
• Set and label control panels/timers, confirm GFCI protection where required, and document serials/cable lengths and cord splices per OEM guidance.
  
  
• Install and position diffused aeration compressors, cabinets, airline, and diffuser assemblies; test airflow and pressure and verify electrical connections.
  
  
• Perform routine servicing: seasonal pull/clean/reinstall; inspect zinc anodes, seals, bearings, screens, risers, floats, cable strain relief, nozzles, and lights; replace worn parts. ii) Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues (e.g., tripped GFCI, nuisance faults, motor overloads, impeller damage, water intrusion) following OEM O&M manuals. iii) Winterize systems including removals, tagging and storage (on-site or at our facility) and spring recommissioning.
  
  
• Observe site conditions (depth, stratification signs, algae/odor, inflows) and recommend aeration settings, additional or different equipment and herbicide treatment options in support of mechanical methods to improve dissolved oxygen and circulation.
  
  
• Installation verification, functional testing, operational testing under load. ii) Ensure and document that the station meets design performance, is safe and is fully operational prior to turnover to the owner.
  
  
• Owner/operator training.
  
  
• Regular inspections to verify safe operations, identify problems, deficiencies and wear. ii) Lubrication and mechanical service.
  
  
• Per maintenance agreement guidelines or service call procedures, address worn or failed elements through diagnostics and component replacements.
  
  
• Document broken or worn items that require extensive disassembly or removal to repair.
  
• Verify reliable operation of meters and other recording equipment, and software. ii) Verify functionality of overflow protection measures.
  
• Verify and document accumulations of sediment or other elements that may affect performance or performance goals.
  
• Practive electrical safety (GFCI use, grounding, inspection of cords, and safe work practices) and lockout/tagout procedures.
  
  
• Use USCG-approved vests/PFDs and inspect and keep rescue equipment available when working over/near water. Follow confined space protocols when work involves pits, vaults, or structures.
  
  
• Comply with aquatic invasive species (AIS) practices when moving equipment among waterbodies; perform hot-water decontamination where required and maintain service provider documentation.
  
• Communicate clearly with owners, property managers, HOAs, municipalities, and contractors; provide before & after photos, service reports, and recommendations.
  
  
• Maintain accurate field tickets, parts usage, serials, warranty notes, and timekeeping within service software.
