Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer based in the United States.

The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will develop and maintain data solutions that transform complex information into actionable business insights. This role combines business intelligence, data engineering, dashboard development, and workflow automation to support strategic and operational decision-making. Working with technical and business stakeholders, you will translate ambiguous requirements into scalable reporting solutions, reliable data pipelines, and efficient applications. You will leverage SQL, Power BI, Databricks, and Microsoft Power Platform technologies to enhance analytics capabilities and streamline business processes. The position also offers opportunities to contribute to data platform modernization and emerging artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives. Success in this role requires strong analytical thinking, technical expertise, and the ability to deliver high-quality solutions with limited direction. Accountabilities

Maintain and enhance data pipelines, reporting datasets, dashboard refresh processes, and recurring analytics assets to ensure reliable and consistent access to business information.

Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand reporting and operational needs, clarify ambiguous requests, and develop scalable data and analytics solutions.

Research source systems, data definitions, ownership, and lineage to support data discovery, requirements gathering, and solution development.

Write complex SQL queries to extract, transform, summarize, and analyze data from multiple sources.

Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, semantic models, paginated reports, and other analytical products using Power BI, Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Report Builder or comparable tools.

Develop and support PowerApps applications that improve business workflows and provide users with more effective access to insights.

Build and maintain Power Automate workflows to streamline business processes, notifications, approvals, and reporting-related activities.

Design, implement, and support data engineering solutions in Databricks, including data pipelines, transformation processes, workflows, and automation.

Contribute to the modernization of data processes and the expansion of Databricks-based analytics capabilities.

Support emerging AI, machine learning, and generative AI initiatives, including solutions that use structured and unstructured data.

Evaluate technical approaches, solve moderately complex to complex problems, and deliver effective solutions with limited supervision.

Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reporting efficiency, automation, and the scalability of analytics solutions.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.

At least 5 years of SQL experience, including writing complex queries to extract, transform, summarize, and analyze data from multiple sources.

At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Databricks data engineering, including developing and maintaining pipelines, workflows, and data transformation processes.

Experience developing dashboards, semantic models, and paginated reports using Power BI, Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Report Builder or similar business intelligence tools.

Experience building or supporting applications and solutions with PowerApps.

Experience developing or maintaining workflow automation solutions using Power Automate.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate data sources, work through unclear business requirements, and translate findings into practical solutions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to manage complex assignments, exercise sound technical judgment, and work independently in an evolving environment.

Preferred qualifications: An advanced degree; experience with Python and/or PySpark for data engineering, analytics, automation, or AI/ML applications; and exposure to AI, machine learning, generative AI, or retrieval-augmented generation solutions, particularly in Databricks.

Additional preferred experience includes working with healthcare data, such as claims or operational datasets; developing automated ETL/ELT processes and recurring reporting datasets; and supporting data platform modernization, migration, or lakehouse analytics initiatives.

Ability to meet remote work requirements, including reliable internet access with minimum download speeds of 25 Mbps and upload speeds of 10 Mbps, and a dedicated workspace that protects sensitive healthcare information.

Willingness to travel occasionally to company offices for training or meetings, as required.

Annual base salary: $89,000–$121,400 USD, depending on location, qualifications, relevant experience, skills, and other job-related factors.
