Events Associate Internship – Family Connections’ Culture Connections Training Center  

Position Summary 

The Events Associate Intern supports the Family Connections Culture Connections Training Center, an initiative designed to advance mental health and substance use services and outcomes in northern New Jersey by equipping mental health professionals and organizations with the tools needed to strengthen competence in the national CLAS standards and provide effective care.   

This role assists with event coordination, program delivery, research, and administrative tasks. This internship offers hands-on experience in promoting NCLAS competence within the mental health and substance use fields while developing skills in project management, training coordination, and community engagement. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Assist with planning and coordinating both in-person and virtual training sessions by: 

• Scheduling venues and meeting spaces 

• Communicating with participants and presenters 

• Preparing training materials and providing technical support 

• Conduct research on best practices, policies, and frameworks supporting the National CLAS Standards. 

• Assist in developing training resources, infographics, guides, and educational materials for mental health organizations. 

• Support the Culture Connections newsletter, marketing initiatives, and social media outreach. 

• Attend program planning and review meetings, document meeting notes, track follow-up actions, and maintain organized communication records. 

• Assist with data collection, program evaluations, participant surveys, and analysis of post-training feedback. 

• Provide general administrative and logistical support to ensure successful program implementation. 

Qualifications 

• Currently pursuing or recently completing a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Education, Human Resources, Communications, Event Management, or a related field. 

• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. 

• Effective written and verbal communication skills. 

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 

• Comfortable using virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and productivity tools including Microsoft Office, and PowerPoint. 

• Experience with Canva, Eventbrite, Microsoft SharePoint, or similar platforms is preferred. 

• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and community partners. 

Supervision and Mentorship 

• Reports to the Associate Director of Culture Connections. 

• Receives training in National CLAS Standards frameworks and community-based programming. 

• Gains practical experience in project management, event coordination, and training facilitation. 

Learning Outcomes 

By the end of the internship, participants will: 

• Develop an understanding of the National CLAS Standards and their application in behavioral health settings. 

• Build experience coordinating in-person and virtual training events. 

• Strengthen skills in participant outreach, communications, and event logistics. 

• Create educational materials (directory, PowerPoint, email listing, etc.) that facilitate NCLAS competent care to feature in our Technical Assistance sessions. (At least 3 per semester) 

• Gain experience in program evaluation, continuous quality improvement, and training delivery within nonprofit, for-profit and behavioral health organizations. 

Internship Details 

• Location: 7 Glenwood Suite 304 East Orange, New Jersey (Hybrid schedule available) 

• Duration: Semester-long, Summer, Fall, or Spring Internship 

• Schedule: 10–20 hours per week  

• Compensation: Unpaid as Student receives education credit from their leaning institution.
