Electrical Engineer – UAS Sustainment and IntegrationThis role focuses on sustaining and enhancing fielded unmanned aircraft system (UAS) electrical systems, including air vehicles and ground control stations. The Electrical Engineer investigates and resolves issues discovered in production, testing, or in the field, implements engineering changes, and supports the integration of new components and technologies. The position involves hands-on work with electrical hardware, documentation updates, and collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure reliable performance of UAS platforms throughout their lifecycle.ResponsibilitiesSupport sustainment engineering for fielded UAS electrical systems, including air vehicles and ground control stations, by performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for issues identified in production, test, or field operations.Execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) on fielded air vehicles and ground control stations, updating schematics, drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation to accurately reflect approved design changes.Support the integration of new or replacement components into existing air vehicle and ground control station electrical systems, including resolving component obsolescence and implementing form, fit, and function substitutions.Contribute to electrical integration efforts and troubleshoot system-level issues on fielded air vehicles and ground support equipment, working closely with other engineering disciplines to identify and resolve problems.Assist with circuit board design and schematic capture updates as needed to support sustainment activities and integration of new hardware.Support the development, review, and updating of test plans, test specifications, and verification procedures for electrical systems to ensure requirements coverage.Participate in and support electrical testing activities, including bench and system-level tests, and help validate that system performance meets defined requirements.Participate in technical reviews and design reviews with internal teams, providing input on electrical design decisions, risks, and mitigations.Collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure cohesive system integration and to resolve cross-functional technical issues.Support manufacturing engineering efforts by incorporating design-for-manufacturability considerations and providing production support for electrical hardware.Prepare clear and thorough technical documentation, including ECO packages, design notes, test results, and technical briefings for internal stakeholders.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.2–5 years of electrical, electronics, or avionics engineering experience; relevant internship, co-op, or academic project experience may be considered.Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including analog, digital, and power systems.Ability to read, interpret, and develop wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.Hands-on experience with electrical design, power distribution, and electrical system integration.Experience with schematic capture and/or PCB layout tools such as Altium, Eagle, or similar software.Strong troubleshooting and hands-on debug skills for system-level and board-level issues.Experience with system-level testing of electrical systems, including test execution and data interpretation.Exposure to avionics, flight controls, or UAS/UAV systems.Knowledge of power distribution systems, battery management, and energy storage technologies.Experience with RF systems, antennas, telemetry, or communication systems.Familiarity with communication links, telemetry, or RF systems used in aerospace or UAS applications.Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-461, or other aerospace electrical standards.Exposure to embedded systems development and hardware–software integration.Experience with MATLAB, Python, or other engineering analysis tools.Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to create clear technical documentation.Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.Additional Skills & QualificationsHands-on lab experience, including soldering, wiring harness fabrication, and bench testing of electronic assemblies.Experience with autopilot systems, flight control systems, or related aerospace control electronics.Experience with antenna design, antenna testing, and antenna integration into UAS platforms.Familiarity with aerospace electrical standards and best practices for system safety and reliability.Experience with hardware integration and software integration in complex electromechanical systems.Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and systems engineering.Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and technologies.Work EnvironmentThis position is based onsite in Madison, Alabama, in a hands-on engineering environment focused on unmanned aircraft systems. The role involves regular work in office, lab, and production areas, including time at test benches and with ground support equipment. Engineers work closely with cross-functional teams and have access to modern electrical design and PCB layout tools, test equipment, and integration facilities. The environment supports collaboration, technical reviews, and continuous learning, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and reliable operation of fielded UAS platforms.Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Madison, AL.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PRACTICES Work Week Monday through Friday; 8 hours per day; 40 hours per week. Different hours may be assigned to specific individuals when circumstances warrant. Holidays 10 holidays: New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and 3 additional Floating Holidays (1 awarded after 3 months employment, and 2 awarded after 6 months). Personal Time Off 3 weeks per year accrued at 10 hours per month: • 1 to 5 years: 3 weeks • 5 to 10 years: 4 weeks • 10+ years: 5 weeks Paid time off (PTO) is available to use as vacation or sick leave. PTO may be accrued and carried over at the end of the year up to240 total accumulative hours after 1 year. Patriotic Service Pay The Company will compensate employees for jury duty so that there will be no loss of pay for a maximum of 40 hours. Jury duty for which compensation is provided is to be served during normal working hours. Up to 120 hours per fiscal year may be charged to administrative leave for absence due to military or National Guard obligations. The Company will pay the employee the difference between their regular base rate of pay and any pay received for military duty. Compensation Payment of wages is made by direct deposit every other Friday. Performance reviews are prepared at yearly anniversaries. Merit pay increases may be given at any time as circumstances warrant. Tuition Assistance Full-time employees may be reimbursed for expenses of pre-approved job-related coursework completed at an accredited college or university, up to a limit of $1,000 per calendar year for undergraduate studies and $2,000 per calendar year for graduate studies. A grade of A or B is required to qualify for reimbursement. An employee who voluntarily terminates employment within 1 year of undergraduate level course completion or within 2 years of graduate level course completion must refund to the Company the cost of any reimbursement received. The Company pays 100% of the premium for employees and 90% of the premium for family coverage. Coverage begins on date of hire.
