Job Description
This role leads warehouse and distribution operations for a Rockwood-based facility, overseeing receiving, inventory movement, picking, packing, and shipping activities. The Distribution Manager ensures high levels of safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery while driving continuous improvement across all distribution processes. The position suits a hands-on operations leader with a strong background in distribution, logistics, and team development who can manage day-to-day activities and deliver measurable performance results.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day warehouse and distribution operations, including receiving, inventory movement, picking, packing, and shipping activities.
- Oversee and coordinate all shipping and receiving processes to ensure accurate, timely, and cost-effective order fulfillment.
- Manage inventory control and material flow to maintain accurate stock levels and efficient warehouse distribution.
- Supervise warehouse personnel, provide clear direction, and ensure effective scheduling to meet operational demands.
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track productivity, quality, safety, and on-time delivery performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other improvement methodologies to optimize processes and reduce waste.
- Use root cause analysis to identify operational issues, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance with warehouse safety practices, company policies, and applicable regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain high standards of quality management across all distribution and warehouse activities.
- Manage cost control efforts within the distribution function, focusing on efficiency, resource utilization, and operational effectiveness.
- Leverage ERP/MRP systems and related tools to manage inventory, orders, and distribution workflows accurately.
- Develop, coach, and mentor employees to build a high-performing team and support ongoing skill development.
- Collaborate with supply chain, logistics, and operations teams to align distribution activities with broader business objectives.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders regarding order status, inventory issues, and operational performance.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated management and supervision experience in a distribution, warehouse, logistics, or operations environment.
- Hands-on experience managing warehouse personnel and daily distribution activities.
- Strong knowledge of shipping, receiving, inventory control, and material flow processes.
- Proficiency in distribution operations management, warehouse management, and inventory management.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems for managing inventory and distribution processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform root cause analysis.
- Effective communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate teams.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety practices and quality standards.
- Ability to perform KPI management and use metrics to drive performance improvements.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing or distribution environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Experience in supply chain management and logistics management.
- Experience in operations leadership with a focus on cost control and quality management.
- Experience in continuous improvement initiatives within warehouse or distribution settings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, analysis, and communication.
- Experience in employee development, including training, coaching, and performance management.
- Familiarity with safety and compliance requirements in warehouse and distribution environments.
- Exposure to lean tools and methodologies to streamline warehouse and distribution operations.
Work Environment
The role is primarily based in an office environment within a manufacturing or distribution setting. The Distribution Manager works closely with warehouse operations and must be comfortable operating in a fast-paced facility where coordination between office-based planning and floor-level execution is critical. The position involves regular interaction with warehouse personnel, operational systems such as ERP/MRP platforms, and cross-functional teams focused on supply chain, logistics, and operations
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Rockwood, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
