Number of Staff: 75

Type of Staff: 1 Charge Nurse, 8 RNs, 3 PCTs, 1 Unit Clerk on Day Shift; 1 Charge Nurse, 8 RNs, 3 PCTs on Night Shift.

Patient Ratios: 5-6 patients per RN.

Type of Equipment: Traction, external fixators, halos, walkers, gait belts, bed alarms, continuous pulse oximetry, remote telemetry monitoring.

Electronic Medical Record System: Meditech.

Skill Set Most Recruited For: Travel RNs, local CNAs, and sitters.

Must-Have Skills: Acute care hospital experience on Med/Surg or telemetry-type units. Kansas license. BLS certification.

Preferred Skills: NIH certification.

Typical Procedures Performed: Wound care and dressing changes.

Dress Code: Scrub Color: Royal Blue.

Unit Guidelines/Policies: Rotate through every 3rd weekend (sometimes every other if leave of absence). Shift times are 06:45-19:15 and 18:45-07:15.

Awards/Recognition: 0% first-year RN turnover. 7% total RN turnover. Increased employee engagement year after year.

Additional Information: 36-bed unit with all private rooms. Fast-paced Med/Surg acuity unit specializing in orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, and trauma care. Staff utilize mobile communication technology to facilitate efficient and private communication. The unit is busy and typically full due to high volume and demand. Expansion from 26 to 36 beds to accommodate growing volume.
