Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS required Must-Have: Vent and trach experience required Description: This position requires work in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ICU has two separate areas: a clean unit and a COVID unit. The clean unit consists of 7 beds with ventilators. The COVID unit has 22 beds and provides care for patients with various levels of complexity, including the need for intubations. All candidates must possess experience with ventilators and tracheostomies due to the rapid deterioration of patients. Certifications for BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required. NIHSS and TNCC certifications are preferred. The nurse-to-patient ratio in the ICU aims for 1:2 in stable conditions, but occasionally may go up to 1:3 for lower acuity patients. In the PCU, the ideal ratio is 1:4, and no more than 1:5 due to the unpredictability of patient conditions. Nurses are expected to have experience with critical care drips, including sedation management. There is no dedicated IV Team; however, several staff members are certified to assist with difficult IV placements. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 to manage ventilators and perform necessary procedures. The work schedule includes every other weekend and participation in holiday rotations. Scrub color options are navy or black, with distinct scrubs provided for COVID unit work. Floating between units may be required, and nurses are expected to be flexible regarding assignments. Common patient diagnoses include COVID, DKA, sepsis, pulmonary edema, CHF, COPD, acute abdomen, and hypertension crisis, among others. Candidates should be adaptable and understanding, as patient admissions can vary significantly. All staff are encouraged to work collaboratively and support one another in a high-demand environment. This role is critical in providing high-quality care during a challenging time.
