About the Position

RN – Med-Surg Unit (MSU) – Nights/Day (Adult & Pediatric) - Relocation Candidates Welcome 

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) caring for both adult/geriatric and pediatric patients. This 20-bed unit provides comprehensive inpatient care with excellent nurse-to-patient staffing ratios.

The ideal candidate must have strong medical-surgical nursing experience, pediatric nursing experience, and the ability to confidently care for patients across both age groups.

Shift Information for Night:

12-Hour Night shift. Typical schedule is 36 hours one week, 48 hours the next, plus up to 1 on-call shift/week. Must be flexible and open to days, weekends, and holidays as needed. Maximum of two (2) Shift Call offs. RTOs for Thanksgiving and Christmas will not be acceptable.

12-Hour Day Shift. Typical schedule is 36 hours one week, 48 hours the next, plus up to 1 on-call shift/week. Must be flexible and open to days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needs may change. Maximum of two (2) Shift Call offs.

Typical Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

• Non-COVID patients: Typically 4:1, maximum 5:1.

• COVID patients: Typically 2:1, maximum 3:1.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients.
• Assess patient conditions, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and evaluate treatment outcomes.
• Recognize changes in patient conditions and respond promptly to medical emergencies.
• Collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation using the RPMS electronic medical record system.
• Provide patient and family education and support.
• Assist with flu immunization clinics as needed.
• Attend required staff meetings and participate in unit activities.
• Float to other departments when qualified and as required, including patient-care assignments or task-oriented duties.
• Maintain flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Requirements

Requirements

• Active RN license required.
• Minimum 3 years of Med-Surg nursing experience.
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience.
• Must be comfortable caring for both adult and pediatric patients.
• Current American Heart Association BLS/BCLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Current PALS certification required.
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and remain flexible with scheduling.
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays as required.
• Ability to float to other departments within the nurse's qualifications and competency.

• On-Call: Up to one on-call shift per week.
• Must be flexible to work day shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Orientation is held on Mondays only. Candidates must meet all compliance deadlines to avoid being moved to the next scheduled orientation.
• A maximum of two shift call-offs is permitted.
• Time-off requests for Thanksgiving and Christmas will not be accepted.

Additional Assignment Details

• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week.
• Overtime: Calculated by the week; overtime starts after 48 hours.
• Overtime Rate: All-inclusive rate.
• On-Call Rate: $3 per hour.
• Call-Back Minimum: 2-hour minimum.

• Important: The weekly schedule may alternate between 36 and 48 hours. Candidates must be comfortable with the required schedule, on-call responsibilities, floating, and holiday coverage.
