Diesel Mechanic

We are looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to support the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and specialty equipment. This role focuses on troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing diesel-powered trucks, emergency response vehicles, and related systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technician with strong diagnostic abilities and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Primary Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and braking system issues on heavy-duty trucks and specialty fleet vehicles.
• Perform preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, fluid servicing, inspections, and scheduled maintenance repairs.
• Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective components using manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices.
• Utilize diagnostic software, testing equipment, and technical manuals to identify and resolve equipment failures.
• Support fleet readiness by completing repairs in a timely and efficient manner.
• Conduct operational and safety inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs completed, and parts utilized.
• Assist with inventory tracking and communicate parts needs to management.
• Work collaboratively with fellow technicians to resolve challenging mechanical issues.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all company safety procedures.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
• Perform additional maintenance and repair duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience working on diesel-powered vehicles, heavy trucks, fleet equipment, or related machinery.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, electronic controls, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, and electrical components.
• Experience using diagnostic scanners, meters, hand tools, and power tools.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced shop environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Must supply personal hand tools necessary to perform job duties.

Work Setting

This position is based in a spacious fleet maintenance facility servicing a wide variety of commercial and specialty vehicles. Technicians work on everything from heavy-duty trucks and utility equipment to emergency response apparatus. The schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts in the early morning, providing a three-day weekend each week, with additional overtime opportunities available based on workload and business needs.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sumner, WA.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $47.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
