Transportation Engineering Technician II State Highway Administration, Office of Materials Technology – Anne Arundel County, Grade 10 (8447) SP# 2 6‑73‑05. Open recruitment. Must apply online at Responsibilities This position is responsible for operating specialized testing vehicles with and without a trailer up to 26,000 lb Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Vehicles are used in roadway testing on the SHA network in accordance with AASHTO and ASTM standards, including surface friction testing and Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) data collection. The technician is supervised by the Pavement Testing Team Leader and receives daily field guidance from the ARAN or the Friction Crew Chief. Additional duties include performing routine and periodic safety and operational checks on testing vehicles and equipment, and completing testing duties in the absence of the crew chief. Qualifications Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: One year of technical engineering related work in areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning. Preferred: Ability to operate a vehicle or equipment with and without a trailer up to 26,000 lb GVWR. Additional: Applicants may substitute 30 semester credit hours of civil engineering coursework for one year of required experience, or possess an Associate's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Surveying Technology from an accredited institution. Licenses & Certifications Must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license. Additional Information Special requirements: Routine statewide travel, with overnight stays up to two weeks at a time during the data collection season.
