The Student Transporter is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and school-related activities, following established routes and schedules. The driver must operate a 925 vehicle, with a seating capacity of no more than 14 passengers. The driver must follow state requirements according to the Arizona Minimum Standards for School Buses and School Bus Drivers (Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) Title 17, Chapter 9). The driver must maintain the discipline of passengers on the school buses. Individuals must be able to work a split shift.

Essential functions include performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections of a 925 vehicle as required by the state Minimum Standards, complying with all traffic regulations, school district policies, and state laws concerning school bus operations and student transportation safety, following assigned routes and schedules, maintaining order and discipline on the bus, communicating effectively with school staff, students, parents/guardians, and transportation personnel as needed, keeping accurate records of student ridership, incidents, and vehicle maintenance needs, reporting any mechanical issues, accidents, or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate personnel, attending training sessions and safety meetings as required, assisting students with disabilities, ensuring proper use of specialized equipment and following individualized transportation plans, adhering to all responsibilities required of a District school bus driver, observing all mandatory safety regulations for school buses and the operation of any district vehicle, observing Federal Communications Commission (F.C.C.) regulations when operating two-way radios, notifying proper authorities of lateness on transportation routes, transporting only authorized personnel/students, picking up and discharging students only at authorized stops, reporting all accidents and incidents and completing required reports and forms, reporting all traffic citations to the supervisor as soon as practical, assisting transportation staff regarding route changes and schedules, cleaning and fueling buses as part of the bus driver's daily routine, maintaining all paperwork as required by state and district policies and procedures, and performing other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or School Administration.

Educational requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (required), an AZ Driver's License (required), 21 years of age or older (required), CPR/First Aid Certification (required), a clean driving record with no major violations (required), and satisfactory completion of background checks and drug testing as required by district policy and state law. Experience operating large vehicles, preferably school buses, knowledge of safe driving practices, traffic laws, and student transportation regulations, strong communication and interpersonal skills, a patient, courteous, and professional demeanor when interacting with students, parents/guardians, and school personnel, and the ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively are preferred.

Physical activities include sitting for extended periods while operating the vehicle, assisting students with boarding and exiting the bus, including lifting and securing equipment or mobility devices if needed, performing basic vehicle inspections and minor maintenance tasks, and working outdoors and being exposed to varying weather conditions. Working conditions require the physical stamina, health, and flexibility necessary to bend, stretch, crouch, kneel, stoop, lift, pull, push, and climb. Repetitive functions are common and necessary to perform the responsibilities of a school bus driver/student transporter, non-CDL credentialed. The environment experiences temperature variations of over 100 degrees (F) and down to possible freezing temperatures of 32 degrees (F). There is possible exposure to bodily fluids and hazardous fluids/materials.
