Aircraft Mechanic 3 – NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA Job Description: Amentum is immediately hiring qualified Aircraft Mechanic 3’s in support of U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana. The role supports VFA-106 and requires knowledge of the F/A‑18 E/F Super Hornet aircraft. Responsibilities Maintain and release aircraft Safe for Flight, managing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Apply expertise across skillsets such as Power Plants, Airframe/Hydraulic Systems, Avionics, ALSS, Electrical, Navigation, Environmental Control Systems, Corrosion, and Line Division Operations. Ensure compliance with OPNAV 4790 guidelines while supporting a demanding operational tempo, including daily flight schedules and detachments to remote locations. Procure and prioritize parts, and manage repairable/non‑repairable assemblies to maintain serviceability. Act as Shift Supervisor, interpreting technical data from schematics, flowcharts, and manufacturer manuals to solve complex problems. Inspect aircraft, records, and logbooks, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with maintenance manuals and Naval Aviation Maintenance Programs before releasing aircraft Safe for Flight. Inspect and maintain company and customer assets, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), per directives. Participate in training and qualification of new personnel, promoting accident prevention, quality of work, and environmental compliance. Maintain a U.S. Government background security check and required fingerprints in EQIP; may need to complete SF‑85/86 to retain a CAC card. Minimum Requirements High School graduate or equivalent. Shift work required; detachments possible. Completion of Navy Aviation Maintenance Control Management for Optimized Organizational Maintenance Activity (OOMA). Seven (7) years of Maintenance / Production Control Experience, with at least 3 years of recent F/A‑18 E/F/G O‑level Safe for Flight experience. Completion of F/A‑18 Supervisor FAM C‑600‑3867 and Naval Aviation QA Admin C‑555‑0046. Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver license (if North Carolina resident). Ability to lift up to 50lbs; meet physical and medical requirements associated with daily tasks. Secret U.S. Government Clearance; must obtain and maintain this clearance. Preferred Qualifications Aircraft Weight and Balance (E‑516‑0001). Naval Aviation Logs & Records (E‑555‑0001). Compensation Estimated hourly rate: $40.99.
