Distinguished Scientist, Vaccines & Advanced Biotechnologies Process R&D

Job Summary Distinguished Scientist (Executive Director) within Vaccines & Advanced Biotechnologies Process R&D. Lead scientific strategy, advance vaccine technologies, and influence development and commercialization of life‑saving medicines. Key responsibilities include shaping vaccine drug‑substance development across modalities, leading technical excellence, driving innovation, and mentoring emerging leaders. Key Responsibilities Strategic Scientific Leadership – Develop and execute long‑term scientific vision and technology roadmap for vaccine drug‑substance development and manufacturing; champion innovation in modeling, automation, AI/ML, systems biology and advanced manufacturing technologies. Enterprise Collaboration & Influence – Partner with Discovery, Development, Commercial Manufacturing, Regulatory and Marketing to accelerate vaccines; provide scientific leadership on CMC strategies and regulatory interactions; serve as trusted advisor to senior leaders. External Scientific Engagement – Expand collaborations with academia, industry, consortia and global health organizations; elevate visibility through publications, conference keynotes and advisory engagements. Technical Excellence & Program Advancement – Guide teams through complex challenges across upstream, downstream, analytical and manufacturing strategies; support regulatory submissions and global market launches. Talent Development & Culture – Mentor, coach and inspire scientists at all levels; foster a culture of rigor, innovation, collaboration and continuous learning. Required Qualifications Education – Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline. Experience – Minimum 15 years in vaccine or biologics drug‑substance process development, spanning upstream and downstream, clinical to commercial manufacturing; proven success with CMC strategies, regulatory submissions and approvals; deep knowledge of modern technologies (modeling, automation, AI/ML, systems biology) and global regulatory frameworks. Technical Expertise – Major expression systems: E. coli, yeast, HEK293, Vero, CHO; modalities: viral vectors, lentiviral vectors, RNA‑based technologies, protein subunits, conjugates and related advanced biologics platforms. Preferred Qualifications Recognized authority in vaccine or biologics process development with evidence of scientific impact and external recognition (publications, patents, awards). Successful collaborations across industry, academia or global health organizations. Experience translating emerging science into practical manufacturing solutions. Working knowledge of adjuvant development and associated drug‑product strategies. Track record of leading through ambiguity, driving transformation and delivering breakthrough outcomes aligned with business objectives. Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $210,400.00 – $331,100.00. Eligible for annual bonus and long‑term incentives.
