Sr. Underwriter, Flood

We seek a Sr. Underwriter Flood to join our Flood team, responsible for managing renewal policies and new business across retail and wholesale segments. The role involves rating, quoting, binding new and renewal business, servicing existing accounts, budgeting, negotiating with carriers and reinsurers, and maintaining P&L. Responsibilities Direct and supervise underwriting activities to achieve profit and expense goals. Develop positive relationships with brokers and articulate the company's appetite. Solicit, review, and coordinate new business opportunities with brokers. Underwrite both new and renewal business. Exhibit high levels of collaboration, leadership, customer service, and persistence. Provide strong analytical ability and sound judgment for accurate decisions. New Business Analyze new submissions for acceptability, reviewing applications, loss runs, websites, models, etc. Communicate declinations or additional information requests to broker/agent. Determine if accounts fit in-house authority or require referral. Complete thorough, accurate underwriting notes documenting the thought process. Submit detailed referrals to carrier partners when necessary. Generate quote, binder, and invoice documents and send to broker/agent. Handle post-bind concerns and ongoing account questions and routine service. Renewal Business Review renewal accounts 90 days from effective date to determine eligibility. Solicit renewal information from agent/broker. Assess fit for in‑house authority or need for referral. Document underwriting decisions with detailed notes. Quote renewal using in‑house authority or refer if necessary. Produce bind/invoice renewal documents. Handle post-bind concerns and routine service questions. Key Requirements Bachelor’s degree required. 3–5 years of property underwriting experience with knowledge of flood peril. Strong negotiation and presentation skills. Self‑motivated, outstanding marketing, and organizational skills. Excellent mathematical calculation, collaboration, and time‑management abilities. Business development experience driving profitable growth. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Critical thinking, decision‑making, and problem‑solving capabilities.
