Job Description:

This is an opportunity to join HPE's world-class Global Communications team. With scores of communicators across the globe, we advocate for HPE's corporate strategy, business innovation, and thought leadership. We're looking for a Corporate Media Relations Manager who is motivated to build new and deepen existing relationships with high-profile business and financial journalists while developing and implementing thoughtful 360-audience communication strategies for corporate initiatives.

How You'll Make Your Mark:

We are seeking a savvy, proactive corporate media relations professional who understands how to build and maintain business media relationships, creates external messaging that resonates, and can develop media campaigns that position the company positively over time. In this role, you'll have a passion for mining for stories across the enterprise and helping ensure they remain top of mind with external audiences.

This role is pivotal in managing and enhancing HPE's business media relationships while also contributing to a variety of corporate communications initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in media relations and corporate communications, with the ability to engage effectively with top-tier business media and internal stakeholders, including senior executives.

Role Overview:

As a member of the Global Communications team, you'll work in a close-knit group of talented colleagues supporting strategic communications and the implementation of integrated 360-degree communications plans. The team you join is high-performing and offers many opportunities for stretch projects that contribute to career development and expertise building.

You'll become an integral part of the corporate media relations team and report to the VP, Corporate & Financial Communications. You'll also collaborate closely with the thought leadership, crisis/issues management, financial communications, and functional executive communications teams to ensure cohesive and effective alignment across corporate media and corporate communications initiatives.

HPE offers a diverse suite of customer offerings across networking, cloud, and AI, each with its own unique story to tell. Your role will help us create even more meaningful engagement with external audiences and business media around how these businesses contribute to HPE's strategy, performance, and innovation.

Responsibilities:

Media Relations

• Play a key role in contributing to and executing HPE's media strategy to enhance the company's reputation and visibility.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for business and national media inquiries, responding to journalists as a company spokesperson while proactively promoting HPE's corporate narrative.
• Support the execution of media relations strategies for milestone corporate events, such as quarterly earnings and investor days, with major business and financial media.
• Develop and implement strategic public relations programs, including corporate announcements, trend pitches, media events, and executive visibility opportunities.
• Advance and advocate for HPE's company story by fostering and maintaining strong relationships with key corporate media outlets and journalists.
• Create story angles and pitches; write corporate articles and other externally published materials; and draft key messaging points, media materials, and executive briefing documents.
• Regularly analyze relevant media trends and provide perspectives and insights that strengthen communications planning and execution.
• Contribute to the development of media engagement skills among our senior executives and spokespeople, helping to facilitate media training and ongoing guidance.
• Continually identify potential HPE spokespeople across the enterprise.
  
  

Strategic Corporate Communications

• Translate complex technology, AI, networking, cloud, and business transformation topics into compelling stories and narratives.
• Ensure consistent and cohesive messaging across HPE's media relations teams globally, helping coordinate key assets including company statements, talking points, and executive briefing materials.
• Contribute to corporate communication projects across various areas, including financial communications, crisis communications, and thought leadership initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong internal relationships to ensure alignment and support for corporate media relations and brand management efforts.
  
  

Reputation Management

• Assist in protecting and enhancing the organization's reputation by ensuring external and internal communications are consistent and reflect HPE's values and corporate narrative.
• Assist in crisis communications situations as needed to help protect HPE's reputation and maintain stakeholder trust.
• Monitor public perception and help proactively identify and address potential reputational risks.

Program Management

• Develop and execute integrated corporate communication plans that align with HPE's business objectives and help protect and strengthen the company's reputation.
• Exhibit strong project leadership skills with the ability to independently drive complex communications programs, while working closely with varied functions and leaders across global communications.
• Facilitate colleagues’ participation in a media center of excellence by championing ideas, best practices, and continuous improvement.

We are looking for someone who is/has:

• A strong relationship builder with exceptional interpersonal skills who is comfortable engaging externally and internally to share a well-developed perspective.
• Familiarity with creating corporate narratives and shaping how they come to life across multiple audiences.
• A fast, deadline-driven thinker capable of managing multiple priorities and time-sensitive initiatives.
• Executive presence and confidence in providing communications counsel to company management.
• Superior writing skills with little need for editing.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a matrixed environment.
• An adaptive, flexible mindset to meet evolving business and Global Communications priorities.
• Willingness to lead both major initiatives and day-to-day implementation efforts.
• Interest in contributing to the continued success of a high-performing team.

Qualifications:

• BA or BS in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English, Economics, Marketing, Political Science, International Affairs, or related field; a Master's degree or professional certification is a plus.
• 8+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, corporate communications, financial communications, business journalism, or a related field; prior corporate communications experience or large communications agency experience is highly preferred.
• Experience supporting media relations programs for technology companies, corporate communications initiatives, business leadership, and/or senior executives.
• Strong preference for candidates based in the greater Houston, Texas area.
