Position Type: 1.0 FTE (Non-Interim) Dates: 07/27/2026 - 05/27/2027 Location: Shadow Mountain High School, Phoenix, Arizona Purpose Statement The Counselor - High School provides support to the instructional process, implements ASCA National Standards for students, manages schedules and placement of assigned students, offers curriculum information and recommendations to students and parents, and assists in developing goals and plans for achievement. Essential Functions Analyze transcripts ensuring compliance with graduation requirements. Assist students in developing their Educational/Career Action Plan. Support students in financial aid, college materials, applications, online registration, scholarships, etc. Collaborate with internal and external personnel (colleges, middle schools, site personnel) to implement and maintain services and programs. Coordinate with teachers, college/university personnel, resource specialists, and community to provide or receive requested information and make recommendations. Counsel students, parents, and guardians (crisis counseling, social–emotional counseling, academic counseling, NCAA advisement, mid‑year graduation, etc.). Develop special programs and activities (College Night, Peer Tutoring Program, PVCC Day, Senior Awards Night, Freshman Orientation, Financial Aid Night, etc.). Monitor students’ progress (classroom academics, PVONLINE courses, dual enrollments, etc.). Participate in meetings (IEP, RED, MET, 504, etc.). Prepare materials (correspondence, financial and scholarship information, new student packets, surveys, newsletters, etc.). Present information (career readiness, career exploration, scholarships, AVID, PVONLINE, etc.). Proctor standardized assessments and exams (AIMS, PSAT, PLAN, ASVAB, AP exams, etc.). Report health and safety issues to administrator and agencies (fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors, etc.). Research program eligibility requirements (financial aid, college eligibility, etc.).Respond to inquiries from internal and external parties (staff, parents, students, visitors, public agencies, etc.). Schedule student classes for placement and meeting graduation/college eligibility requirements. Supervise assigned programs (Peer Mediation, Teen AA, Peer Tutoring, etc.). Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Apply assessment instruments, prepare and maintain accurate records, plan and manage projects, use pertinent software applications. Knowledge of algebra/geometry, technical information review, writing technical materials, effective communication, and child development stages. Ability to schedule activities, gather, collate, and classify data, operate equipment, analyze complex processes, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, set priorities, work as part of a team, and function with diverse individuals. Responsibility Work under limited supervision using standardized practices and methods, leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others. Work Environment Physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; fine finger dexterity. 30% sitting, 10% walking, 60% standing. Minimal temperature variations. Experience Job‑related experience desired. Education Master’s degree in a job‑related area. Equivalency Provided upon request. Required Testing, Certificates, and Licenses Arizona Department of Education Counseling Certificate. Continuing Education/Training Criminal Background Clearance. Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
