Role Description The (2026-2027) Tier 3 Paraprofessional/School Supports role is a full-time, on-site position based in Nassau County/Queens, NY. In this role, the paraprofessional will implement behavior and instructional support plans under the guidance of BCBAs and school staff, providing direct support to students with intensive behavioral and learning needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting student(s) in classrooms and small-group settings, using behavior intervention strategies, reinforcing skill development, and assisting with academic and functional activities. The Tier 3 Paraprofessional will collect data on student behavior and progress, communicate observations to the supervising BCBA and educators, and participate in team meetings as needed. The role also involves promoting student safety and independence, maintaining calm and respectful interactions, and collaborating with teachers, related service providers, and families to support student success. Qualifications Experience working with children or young people in school, clinical, or community settings, preferably supporting students with significant behavioral or learning needs. RBT Certification, active RBT Certification pursuit, and prior experience as a Behavior Technician or Paraprofessional is preferred. Familiarity with or willingness to learn applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles, behavior intervention strategies, and data collection methods. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, educators, BCBAs, and families. Ability to follow structured behavior and instructional plans, accept feedback, and adjust support strategies as directed. Capacity to remain calm, patient, and consistent when responding to challenging behavior while maintaining student dignity and safety. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and professionalism in an on-site school environment in Brooklyn, NY. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred. Prior paraprofessional, teaching assistant, or behavioral health experience in schools is strongly preferred; experience in special education settings is a plus. Willingness to participate in ongoing training, coaching, and professional development provided by Polaris ABA and school partners.
