Overview Diesel Technician II - Monarch Power Supply About Monarch Power Supply Monarch Power Supply is the authorized Perkins Engine Distributor serving the 15 western states. We provide OEM engine sales, service, warranty, engineering support, and technical training for industrial diesel engines powering equipment across construction, agriculture, power generation, material handling, mining, and numerous other industrial applications. Our Houston Service Center is continuing to grow as our flagship service location, specializing in advanced diesel engine diagnostics, engine rebuilds, OEM warranty repairs, field service, and customer support. Our technicians utilize OEM diagnostic software, specialized tooling, and direct access to Perkins engineering resources to solve complex engine issues. Wages Starting wage will depend on experience and education. $38.75 - $43.00 Responsibilities The Diesel Technician II performs advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on industrial diesel engines and engine-powered equipment both in our Houston Service Location and at customer locations throughout the Houston service territory. This position requires an experienced technician capable of independently troubleshooting complex mechanical and electronic systems while delivering exceptional customer service. This position includes regular field service work, with assignments typically performed within a 200–300-mile radius of the Houston Service Location. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional overtime and weekend work as customer needs require. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of industrial diesel engines, common rail fuel systems, electronic engine controls, diesel aftertreatment systems, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Strong diagnostic skills, technical judgment, communication, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are essential. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on industrial diesel engines and engine-powered equipment both in the Houston Service Location and at customer locations throughout the Houston service territory. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial diesel engines and engine-powered equipment. Perform advanced electronic diagnostics using OEM diagnostic software and service information. Repair hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, fuel, cooling, lubrication, and aftertreatment systems. Perform engine removals, installations, overhauls, rebuilds, adjustments, and commissioning. Complete assigned jobs efficiently while meeting quoted labor expectations. Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, and recommendations using company business systems. Access factory databases and technical publications to support diagnostics and repairs. Remove, install, disassemble, assemble, test, and adjust engine components and related systems. Assemble complete engines with minimal supervision. Complete detailed inspection reports and communicate repair recommendations to customers. Communicate professionally with customers regarding diagnostics, repair status, and equipment operation. Communicate effectively through email, Microsoft Teams, and other company communication platforms. Train and mentor Apprentice and Diesel Technician I employees. Maintain company tools, diagnostic equipment, and work areas in a safe and professional manner. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Occasional overnight travel (up to 10% annually) for manufacturer-approved technical training, professional development, and customer field service assignments. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities) Three (3) to five (5) years of experience diagnosing and repairing industrial diesel engines in heavy equipment, construction, power generation, agricultural, trucking, or similar industries preferred. Ability to obtain Perkins Certified Technician status within six (6) months through Monarch's manufacturer-approved training program. Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose, repair, remove, install, overhaul, and commission industrial diesel engines. Strong understanding of common rail fuel systems, electronically controlled diesel engines, and diesel aftertreatment systems. Experience using OEM diagnostic software such as Perkins EST, CAT ET, Cummins INSITE, John Deere Service Advisor, or equivalent diagnostic platforms preferred. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, troubleshooting guides, service manuals, and electrical diagrams. Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate multiple software platforms for diagnostics, documentation, and communication. Ability to consistently maintain high efficiency on billable labor hours. Ability to complete accurate repair documentation and routine reports. Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and ratios. Must provide personal mechanic tools and possess working knowledge of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and precision measuring equipment. Must be able to install, program, troubleshoot, and repair electronic engine control systems. Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must be eligible to obtain a DOT Medical Certificate. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to remain composed while troubleshooting complex repairs under demanding conditions. Willingness to travel in support of field service operations as required. Physical Demands Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, balance, and work in confined spaces. Ability to use repetitive hand motions while operating hand tools, computers, keyboards, and diagnostic equipment. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and move up to 100 with help on occasion. Ability to safely operate lifting devices, shop equipment, and service tools. Ability to travel by vehicle or aircraft for extended periods when required. Work Environment Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and cold temperatures. Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise from engines, machinery, and power tools. Ability to work safely around diesel fuel, engine exhaust, oils, coolants, solvents, and other industrial chemicals. Frequently work in confined spaces and awkward positions while servicing equipment. Identify workplace hazards and consistently follow all company safety policies and procedures. Consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other required safety equipment.
