About the Role:

The Houseparent plays a vital role in providing a safe, nurturing, and structured home-like environment for children or youth residing in group homes, residential facilities, or similar settings. This position is responsible for fostering emotional support, guidance, and supervision to promote the well-being and development of residents. The Houseparent collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to implement individualized care plans and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. They serve as a positive role model, encouraging social, educational, and personal growth while managing daily household operations. Ultimately, the Houseparent contributes to creating a stable and supportive atmosphere that helps residents build life skills and achieve their full potential.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with children or youth in a residential, educational, or caregiving setting.
• Ability to pass background checks and comply with state and federal regulations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Basic first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a houseparent, foster parent, or in a similar caregiving role.
• Training in trauma-informed care, behavioral management, or child development.
• Ability to manage household budgets and coordinate with external service providers.
• Multilingual abilities or cultural competency training.

Responsibilities:

• Provide consistent supervision and care to children or youth, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
• Establish and maintain daily routines, including meal preparation, hygiene, homework assistance, and recreational activities.
• Implement individualized care plans in coordination with social workers, therapists, and other professionals.
• Manage household tasks such as cleaning, maintenance, and inventory of supplies to maintain a healthy living environment.
• Document behavioral observations, incidents, and progress reports accurately and communicate effectively with team members and families.
• Support residents in developing social skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation through positive reinforcement and guidance.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or crises, following established protocols.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and community events to enhance professional development and program quality.

The Houseparent utilizes strong communication skills daily to build trust and rapport with residents, families, and team members, ensuring clear and compassionate interactions. Organizational skills are essential for managing household routines, documentation, and coordinating care plans effectively. Problem-solving and crisis management skills enable the Houseparent to respond calmly and efficiently to emergencies or behavioral challenges.
