This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.The RoleAs the Safety Performance Integration Engineer, you will lead and execute development and validation of vehicle crash safety systems on future vehicle programs.Hold responsibility for crashworthiness development of vehicle structure for GM Vehicle Programs.Lead engineering projects by demonstrating initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and project management throughout the vehicle development process. Synthesize physical and virtual test results with respect to safety technical requirements.Work with global teams in a collaborative environment.Provide technical direction while working with multiple functional groups.​What You’ll Do Understand and apply GM Safety Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results.Use CAE to lead the vehicle design, while balancing all applicable Global Safety RequirementsPerform CAE simulations to evaluate full vehicle crashworthiness performance for high-speed Frontal, Side, and/or Rear impact load cases using LS-DYNA software.Generate feasible and timely vehicle design recommendations and technical solutions to meet safety performance targets as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS) and achieve balance safety performance which also account for the results of crash simulations for the major safety load cases.Work with engineering functions, program teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and others to implement design changes as requiredUse advanced CAE tools and methods (Variation Study/DOE/DFSS/MDO) to optimize the structural designs and improve structural efficiencyPhysical safety test support at the Milford Vehicle Proving Grounds including test requests, test, post-test teardowns, interpretation of results, issue resolution follow-through, and comparison of CAE to test results.Present performance status at appropriate forums on regular basis.Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, or related field of study5+ years of combined experience in application in virtual CAE, CAE design, and/or physical testing relating to vehicle developmentWillingness to learn new skills and adapt expeditiouslyDemonstrated ability to work independently and with othersHigh level of analytical ability to solve challenging problems and to integrate complex systemsKnowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniquesWhat Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred qualifications)Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Physics or MathExperience in virtual CAE and physical testing for automotive structures crashworthinessKnowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)ANSA and LS-DYNA experienceWorking knowledge of Unigraphics, TeamCenter, and VisMockupKnowledge and experience with GM’s Global Vehicle Development Process#LI-LP2 GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
