Office Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Work Model: 100% onsite. Relocation assistance is not available.

THE OPPORTUNITY

OOCL is seeking a business-minded attorney to support our North America operations within the Risk & Compliance department.

This role provides practical legal guidance on commercial contracts, claims, disputes, compliance matters, and operational risk. The Corporate Counsel will partner with business and functional teams, Corporate HQ in Hong Kong, and outside counsel, with support from the Head of Risk & Compliance on specialized maritime and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Draft, review, and negotiate customer, vendor, supplier, confidentiality, and other commercial agreements.
• Provide practical legal guidance to business and functional teams.
• Evaluate claims and disputes and recommend appropriate resolution strategies.
• Coordinate litigation and arbitration matters with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
• Support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal standards.
• Identify legal risks and escalate significant or specialized matters when appropriate.
• Improve contract templates, legal guidance, and review processes.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active license and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Ability to obtain and maintain any registration or authorization required to practice as in-house counsel in Utah.
• Minimum three years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or both.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Experience in at least one additional area, such as claims, disputes, compliance, regulatory matters, or outside counsel coordination.
• Strong judgment and the ability to provide clear, practical legal guidance.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, organization, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters independently while recognizing when guidance or escalation is needed.

Preferred Experience:

• Transportation, logistics, supply chain, international trade, or another regulated industry.
• Cross-border commercial or regulatory matters.
• Maritime law or Federal Maritime Commission regulations.

Maritime experience is preferred but not required. Support will be provided on specialized maritime and regulatory matters.
