Food Service Specialist

Food Service Specialist – East Lorain Child Care Center, 2500 Colorado Ave, Lorain, OH 44055. Salary: $13.75–$14.75 per hour. Full‑time. Reports to Center Director. General hours: roughly 7AM‑4PM. Job Description Obtain ODH Manager Certification (ServSafe webinar and test) within 30 days of start date. Horizon will cover certification costs. Maintain compliance with Ohio Health Department, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and DCY licensing standards. Prepare, operate, and close meal service (breakfast, lunch, and snack), including collecting meal items from classrooms after service. Communicate nutrition‑based resources to teachers and families. Check meal count sheets for accuracy after each service. Complete weekly lunch orders and milk inventories. Inspect food deliveries for count accuracy and temperature of hot foods. Communicate with CACFP Coordinator about issues. Order supplies for meal service: condiments, plates, cups, etc. Maintain kitchen cleanliness at a high level. Assist the office between meal services with duties such as classroom supervision, data entry, cleaning, or answering phones. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding personnel and family information. Perform any other duties as needed or assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Food preparation/service experience preferred. Familiarity with the childcare center environment a plus. Must be able to multitask and have strong detail‑oriented, time‑management, and organizational skills. Must work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Must adapt quickly to changing environments and assignments. Prompt, reliable, and possesses a genuine love of children. Required to complete safety in‑services once employed. Willingness to update job knowledge with required training, DCY licensing rules, SUTQ professional development, and industry trends. Must lift and carry a minimum of 40lbs as required.
