Upon working 630 hours in a school year, eligible employees may be eligible for insurance benefits through School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) which includes medical, dental, vision, long‑term disability, life and AD&D insurance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes under his/her care. Serve as liaison between the team physician, the athlete, the athlete’s parents, and coaching staff. Consult with coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment. Assist with injury prevention including education for athletes, coaches, parents, and Athletic Trainers; identify risk factors; correct deficiencies; provide taping and bracing. Provide emergency care and first aid, including availability of necessary equipment, communication procedures for emergencies, and prompt, accurate triage. Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer to the team physician or specialist when appropriate. Assist in determining athlete return to competition. Treat athletic injuries with protection, rest, ice, compression, evaluation, support, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cold/heat, and hydrotherapy as needed. Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify individual exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to pre‑injury status. Maintain injury reports, home‑care instructions, referrals, treatment records, and rehabilitation progress notes. Secure athletic training room equipment and supplies as needed. Cover team practices and sporting events as scheduled with the Athletic Director. Establish a positive learning environment that promotes achievement for all students, considering individual backgrounds and developmental levels. Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, correspondence, and notices relevant to essential functions. Maintain accurate and complete student documentation as required by law, district policy, and regulations. Attend conferences, workshops, and other professional development to maintain current knowledge. Maintain HIPAA and FERPA confidentiality compliance. Collaborate with school personnel to develop school‑wide initiatives to enhance safety and effectiveness. Make the athletic training room facilities and medical attention available to school athletes with arrangements by coach and trainer. Collaborate with school nurses to ensure consistency in student athlete medical plans during and after school. Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and completion of work assignments with deadlines. Specialists are dressed and groomed in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner. Maintain integrity of confidential information; use or relay information only in the course of assigned responsibilities. Follow all district policies, rules, regulations, and reasonable requests by proper authority.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a valid Board of Certification (BOC) certificate. Valid Washington State Department of Health Athletic Trainer License. Completion of Washington State Patrol background check; employee is responsible for cost. Current First Aid and CPR card, or ability to obtain prior to start date. Ability to work cooperatively with students and parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse. Job‑related experience in Athletic Training. Skill in using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up with minimal direction. Skill in communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, families, peers, and colleagues. Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions. Knowledge and training in first aid procedures required for athletic‑related injuries. Ability to work within various noise, temperature, and air quality conditions; adapt to diverse surfaces and locations. Flexibility, patience, self‑motivation, and ability to perform job assignments without direct supervision. After‑hours work required; ability to work under stress.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds; reaching, climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling, moving equipment/light furniture. Assist or transfer athletes of various weight/heights. Push carts with athletic equipment. Stand for long periods, have good mobility skills, and walk long distances. Communicate directions and instructions to subordinates. Carry medical kit and coolers for long distances.
