DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis role supports the maintenance and repair of construction equipment, trucks and automobiles within the Lancaster County Maintenance Organization. Your work will ensure safe operation and reliable performance of the fleet by focusing on diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Fleet Repairs: Inspect and repair vehicles and equipment including engines, transmissions, and mechanical systems
- Preventative Care: Carry out scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, and tune-ups to support safe operation
- System Service: Maintain hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems on assigned equipment
- Safety Inspections: Perform official state safety and emissions inspections and complete related records
- Equipment Handling: Repair and maintain motorized hand equipment and report missing or damaged parts
- Work Area Safety: Follow safety procedures, identify hazards, and maintain a clean and safe work area

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Some travel, overtime, and shift work may be required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
Additional Requirements:
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
