About the Role:

A well-established insurance defense law firm is seeking an experienced Defense Litigation Attorney to join its growing team in Birmingham, Alabama. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with at least 3 years of defense litigation experience who is looking to handle meaningful legal matters while building a long-term career within a collaborative and respected practice.

The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload, conduct legal research, develop litigation strategies, and represent clients throughout the litigation process. The role offers opportunities for increased responsibility, client interaction, and continued professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage multiple defense litigation matters from case evaluation through resolution.
• Conduct legal research and analyze applicable statutes, regulations, and case law.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
• Develop case strategies and provide practical legal recommendations to clients.
• Handle discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests and reviewing relevant documents.
• Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
• Assist with pre-trial preparation, including witness preparation, exhibits, motions, and trial strategy.
• Represent clients in court proceedings and participate in trials as appropriate.
• Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, insurance representatives, witnesses, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate case files, deadlines, billing records, and matter documentation.
• Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to deliver efficient, high-quality legal services.
• Maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and exceptional service.

Required Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in the Alabama State Bar required.
• Minimum of 3 years of defense litigation experience.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to independently manage multiple cases, priorities, and deadlines.
• Pre-trial and trial experience preferred.
• Strong academic credentials preferred.
• Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented approach to legal practice.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team.
• Strong commitment to client service, professionalism, and ethical legal practice.
