Perioperative NurseReports To: Surgical Services ManagerSupervises: NoneOvertime Status: Exempt X NonexemptAttendance Requirement: 99% scheduled attendance each calendar yearPhysical Demand Level: Heavy*Physical Demand Level determined as per Section 37.02 U.S. Department Of Labor Physical Demand Characteristics Of WorkJob Summary: The perioperative nurse plans, coordinates, delivers and evaluates nursing care to patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during surgical or other invasive procedures. The perioperative nurse plans and implements nursing care to address the physical, psychological, and spiritual responses of the patient having a surgical or invasive procedure. May also perform in the surgical technician role.Primary Job Responsibilities:Oversee the instrument and equipment set-up for your OR, including utilization of preference cards and ability to anticipate your surgeons needsCoordinate and oversee your room during a case as the circulatorFacilitate effective and efficient transition between surgical proceduresUtilize appropriate body mechanics in moving patients to stretchers and OR tables to prevent injuryManage patients care and medication, including assistance with anesthesiaConsistently review charts for completeness, in accordance with documentation protocols prior to and after the surgical procedureEnsures that the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient. Works side by side with scrub nurses to help maintain the sterile field in the operating room.Prepares the patient for the procedure and handles the preparation for the operating room before the surgery takes place. Must have a strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long, arduous work hours.Assess the patient's condition before a surgical procedure. Assesses the needs of the patient during the procedure, to ensure the best outcome.Works with a physician to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery.Administer pre-operative medications and intravenous therapy as prescribedMonitor patients until transfer to the ORInstruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructionsOther Job Responsibilities: As needed by Marketing Director.Education/Certification/Licenses:Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing; current state RN or LPN License.CPR required.ACLS required.Minimum one year in pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative surgical patient care.Additional Requirements: As needed by the Surgical Services ManagerCustomer service abilities including effective listening skills.Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.Contacts: Employee interacts with internal and external employees, potential and existing customers, potential and existing vendors, and acquaintances of all levels and purposes.
