Registered Nurse (RN) – PRN Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery Center (Perioperative) Location: Total Vascular Care Ambulatory Surgery Center – San Antonio, TX Total Vascular Care is seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our growing Ambulatory Surgery Center team on a PRN basis. We are looking for an energetic, patient-focused nurse with strong critical thinking skills who thrives in a collaborative team environment. Experience caring for patients with peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, and dialysis access is highly preferred. Schedule PRN (As Needed) Monday–Friday Day Shift Hours vary based on surgical schedule No nights No weekends No holidays No call Position Summary The Perioperative Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care throughout the patient's surgical experience, including pre-operative assessment, intraoperative monitoring, post-anesthesia recovery, patient education, and discharge planning. Working collaboratively with vascular surgeons, CRNAs/anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and the multidisciplinary team, the RN plays an essential role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care. Essential Responsibilities Patient Care Perform comprehensive preoperative nursing assessments and obtain relevant medical history. Verify physician orders, informed consents, and required documentation before procedures. Prepare patients for surgery while providing emotional support and education. Administer medications, including moderate (conscious) sedation, as ordered by the physician and within the RN scope of practice. Continuously monitor patient status before, during, and after procedures, recognizing and responding promptly to changes in condition. Assist with Phase I and Phase II recovery, discharge readiness, and patient education. Provide thorough discharge instructions to patients and caregivers, including vascular access care and post-procedure expectations. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation from admission through discharge. Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring safety, dignity, and high-quality care throughout the surgical experience. Communicate significant clinical findings to physicians, anesthesia providers, and the surgical team. Surgical Team Collaboration Collaborate with surgeons, CRNAs/anesthesia providers, surgical assistants, and support staff to provide seamless perioperative care. Participate in surgical time-outs and patient safety initiatives. Anticipate patient and procedural needs to promote efficient surgical workflow. Assist with patient positioning, transfers, and transportation as needed. Maintain vigilance throughout the procedure, recognizing and communicating potential patient safety concerns. Clinical Operations Operate and troubleshoot patient care equipment, including: Defibrillators Pulse oximetry Blood pressure monitoring equipment Maintain competency in emergency response procedures, including BLS and ACLS protocols. Initiate emergency interventions, including CPR, when appropriate. Quality & Regulatory Compliance Maintain compliance with AAAHC standards, CMS Conditions for Coverage, OSHA requirements, HIPAA regulations, and facility policies. Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives, chart audits, peer review activities, and accreditation surveys. Assist in developing and revising clinical policies and procedures to support continuous quality improvement. Maintain implant documentation and state-required reporting. Participate in staff meetings, continuing education, and competency assessments. Medication & Supply Management Assist with medication inventory management and controlled substance documentation. Monitor medication expiration dates and storage requirements. Complete medication usage logs and disposal documentation. Collaborate with pharmacy personnel to ensure medication accuracy and regulatory compliance. Inspect emergency equipment and maintain crash cart readiness. Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Current Texas Registered Nurse license Current BLS certification Current ACLS certification Preferred Experience Minimum of 2 years recent experience in one or more of the following: Ambulatory Surgery Center Operating Room PACU ICU Critical Care Telemetry Emergency Department Experience in vascular surgery, interventional radiology, endovascular procedures, or dialysis access is highly preferred. Physical Requirements This position requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and assisting with patient transfers. Candidates must be able to safely move patients with assistance and utilize mechanical lifting devices when appropriate. The work environment is a climate-controlled outpatient surgical facility where exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials may occur.
