Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg

This RN works on a general medical-surgical unit serving adults with a broad range of acute medical conditions. The role emphasizes comprehensive assessment, rapid response to changes, and coordinated care planning.

The nurse operates within a multidisciplinary team to manage complex symptom burden and transitions between inpatient services.

Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients, including vitals, labs, and evolving clinical status.
• Administer medications and therapies per orders and reconcile medications on admission and discharge.
• Perform wound care, dressing changes, and basic procedures as delegated; manage IV therapy when required.
• Coordinate care with physicians, pharmacists, and therapists; participate in rounds and care planning.
• Document in the EHR and communicate changes to team members promptly.
• Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, and follow-up needs.
• Respond to clinical changes with timely interventions and escalate as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program.

Licensure:

Current RN license valid in the state of employment.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• ACLS or institution-specific cardiac care training preferred

Experience or Skills:

Evidence of care on a medical-surgical unit; strong assessment, documentation, and communication abilities.

Experience

• Experience on a medical-surgical unit or equivalent setting
• Experience with IV therapy and ongoing patient education

Preferred

• BSN preferred
• Telemonitoring or rapid-response experience preferred

Work Environment

Acute inpatient setting with a mix of medical conditions; team-based care with nurses, residents, and allied health staff.

Typical shifts include days or evenings with on-call coverage as needed, and documentation is performed in the electronic health record.
