Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment to keep production lines operating safely and efficiently. This role works with advanced control systems, including PLCs and AC/DC drives, and supports continuous improvement by assisting with equipment installations, modifications, and preventive maintenance. The technician collaborates closely with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve issues quickly, minimize downtime, and ensure reliable plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment, including programmable logic controls (PLC), relay logic panels, AC and DC drives, and test equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve issues involving 480VAC and 220VAC 3-phase systems, as well as electrical circuits ranging from 12VAC to 120VAC.
• Install and troubleshoot AC and DC control systems, including motors, contactors, overloads, variable frequency drives (VFDs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), thermostats, and power supplies.
• Apply oven burner temperature control knowledge, including working with ignitors, sensors, thermocouples, and tracking units.
• Install, start up, and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
• Use Lock-out/Tag-out, confined space, and fall prevention procedures and promptly report unsafe conditions.
• Advise operators and line mechanics on safe operating procedures and requirements for working with electrical and mechanical equipment and components.
• Respond promptly to unplanned mechanical or electrical failures on the production line to minimize downtime.
• Communicate daily with manufacturing and quality control personnel to resolve equipment issues and support production goals.
• Complete assigned projects successfully and on time, and implement approved changes to plant process control equipment.
• Use the work order system to enter, update, and complete work orders as directed.
• Document and communicate maintenance issues so that repairs can be scheduled effectively.
• Assist other maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Help train other maintenance and technical-level employees to build team capability.
• Perform preventive electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks as directed.
• Maintain a continuous coil coating line, roll forming machines, slitter, and warehouse equipment to keep all machines running efficiently.
• Install, service, repair, and inspect electronic equipment, programmable controllers, and the mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical portions of all facility equipment.
• Follow proper safety procedures for working with primary high voltage and secondary distribution voltages, including correct grounding and lock-out/tag-out practices.
• Order parts and necessary supplies to support continuous operation of company equipment.
• Follow all reliability procedures, process control requirements, testing procedures, and job description cards related to the work being performed.
• Take ownership of all preventive maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.

Essential Skills

• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• At least 4 years of industrial maintenance experience, including work with mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, chains, sprockets, shafts, and shaft couplings.
• Minimum 2 years of industrial hydraulic experience, including pumps, control valves, cylinders, manifolds, hose making, and plumbing.
• Minimum 2 years of pneumatic experience.
• Previous industrial experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot 480VAC and 220VAC 3-phase systems and familiarity with 12VAC to 120VAC electrical circuits.
• Hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting and relay logic panels.
• Proficiency with AC and DC drives and related control systems.
• Capability to install, service, repair, and inspect electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical portions of facility equipment.
• Willingness to work overtime as required to support production needs.
• Understanding and application of proper safety procedures, including working with high voltage, grounding equipment, and lock-out/tag-out.
• Ability to follow reliability procedures, process control requirements, and testing procedures accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with coil coating lines, roll forming machines, slitters, and warehouse equipment.
• Knowledge of oven burner temperature control systems, including ignitors, sensors, thermocouples, and tracking units.
• Hands-on skills in hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, and welding.
• Familiarity with 3-phase motors and related control components.
• Experience using a computerized or structured work order system for maintenance activities.
• Ability to train and mentor other maintenance or technical personnel.
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with manufacturing and quality teams.
• Detail-oriented approach to documenting maintenance issues and preventive maintenance tasks.

Work Environment

The role is based in an open bay manufacturing warehouse that is clean, organized, and non-climate controlled, with typical temperatures ranging from approximately 80 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. You work on the production floor as part of a team of about 5 to 10 colleagues in a collaborative, team-based culture. The environment emphasizes safety and focus, with no cellphones allowed on the floor. Appropriate attire includes pants, closed-toe shoes, and required eye protection, reflecting the hands-on, industrial nature of the work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clearwater, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
