Job Description

Work Environment

The role is based in a chemical processing facility that handles hazardous materials, and while employees are not placed in undue danger, you must be comfortable working in an industrial environment with strict safety protocols. Work is primarily on the plant floor and in utility or equipment areas, involving hands-on tasks with electrical systems, conduit, wiring, PLCs, VFDs, and control panels. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety procedures, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintaining clean, orderly work areas.

Job Description

Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair industrial electrical systems, equipment, and components in a chemical facility.
- Perform electrical work in Class I, Division 1 hazardous locations in accordance with applicable codes and safety standards.
- Install conduit, raceways, wiring, grounding systems, and electrical control equipment.
- Perform conduit bending and routing to support new installations and system modifications.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults using meters, test instruments, and PLC diagnostic tools where applicable.
- Read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes, including hazardous location requirements.
- Apply knowledge of NEC Article 500/501 when working in hazardous locations.
- Support PLC and control system troubleshooting, particularly with Allen-Bradley platforms when needed.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and adjustment of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Contribute to the installation and maintenance of industrial networking or automation systems such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus, where applicable.
- Maintain accurate documentation of electrical work, modifications, and repairs.
- Maintain safe, organized, and clean work areas and follow all site and electrical safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to minimize downtime and improve system reliability.
- Train with an experienced site electrician to learn facility-specific systems and gradually assume primary electrician responsibilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational training or formal apprenticeship as an electrician.
- 5+ years of industrial electrical experience preferred, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Hands-on experience working in Class I, Division 1 hazardous locations.
- Knowledge of NEC hazardous location requirements, particularly Article 500 and 501.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills using meters and test instruments.
- Practical experience with electrical installation, repair, conduit installation, wiring, and grounding.
- Ability to perform PLC troubleshooting at a basic to intermediate level.
- Capability to work safely around hazardous materials and follow strict safety procedures.
- Experience in industrial manufacturing or chemical facility environments.
- Familiarity with PLC and control systems, with Allen-Bradley platforms considered a plus.
