FBI Litigation Branch Attorney

Overview The Litigation Section of the Office of the General Counsel, Litigation Branch, provides expert legal advice, representation, and support to the entire FBI, defending the agency and its employees against civil, employment, and FOIA lawsuits, and advising executives and managers on civil liability, employment, and information‑access matters. Responsibilities Serve as agency counsel in defending civil, employment, and FOIA lawsuits filed in federal court. Work closely with DOJ Trial Attorneys and associate U.S. attorneys on depositions, affidavits, briefing, discovery, trial support, and post‑trial proceedings. Act as first‑chair litigators in employment discrimination and whistleblower reprisal cases before the EEOC, MSPB, and OARM, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and administrative hearings. Conduct legal research and draft analytical legal products. Provide expert counsel to FBI executives, managers, and employees on civil liability, employment, information‑access, and protective‑privilege issues. Collaborate with DOJ attorneys and other agency litigators and the Intelligence Community. Qualifications J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school (or equivalent law degree) and active membership in a U.S. bar. GS‑13: 1.5+ years post‑JD legal experience. GS‑14: 2.5+ years post‑JD legal experience. GS‑15: 4+ years post‑JD legal experience.
