Special Educator: Child Identification (Two Positions) Location: Point Pleasant Resource Center, Glen Burnie, Maryland Job Summary Performs screening and comprehensive developmental evaluations of children aged three to five suspected of having a disability as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). Work involves the administration of tests, assessing student performance using various methods, counseling with parents, teachers and administration, conducting conferences, completing reports and collecting relevant data. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Administers pre‑academic assessments using observations from parents and preschool teachers or direct assessment of children; analyzes and interprets test results; provides input in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and assists in placement recommendations considering the least restrictive environment. Utilizes normative data and analyzes test findings in the interpretation of diagnostic data; prepares written assessment reports summarizing significant findings; develops and coordinates an evaluation schedule for students recommended for assessment through the IEP process. Conducts follow‑up conferences with parents and school staff regarding recommendations for further action. Partners with the school‑based and multidisciplinary evaluation team as needed. Maintains accurate and current records on each student served; complies with AACPS policies, procedures and guidelines established by the Division of Special Education. Maintains data, including the number of students assessed, placed into special education, and other related data. Assists in implementing collaborative activities with other professionals. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university. Experience: Two (2) years of successful teaching experience at the special education, preschool level; and two (2) years of successful experience administering and interpreting informal and formal assessments appropriate for preschool children. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of IEPs and special education instructional diagnostic techniques; demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to use specialized assessment and data analysis software; effective communication with diverse populations; proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite). Citizenship, residency or work visa required. Language Requirements Bilingual/Biliterate in English and a targeted second language if assigned to a bilingual program; otherwise bilingual and biliterate in English with a targeted second language preferred. Licenses & Certifications Active educator certificate/license issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Driver’s License (DL) Class C Non‑Commercial issued by Maryland or state of legal residence. Daily access to reliable transportation. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Standing: under one third of the time Walking: under one third of the time Sitting: between one third and two thirds of the time Keyboarding: between one third and two thirds of the time Talking: between one third and two thirds of the time Hearing: between one third and two thirds of the time Driving: under one third of the time, as required by duties Work environment: Office, school or similar indoor environment > two thirds of time; noise level moderate at one third to two thirds of time; lifting up to 10 pounds under one third of time. Travel Requirements 10% day travel within the county.
