Engineer II

Overview Develop and implement optimal, cost‑effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. The position recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls, coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. Priorities include process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training. Education and Experience Must have a Bachelor’s degree in BSME or equivalent. 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the firearms industry). Competencies and Skills Strong understanding of lean principles. Specific knowledge in drawing interpretation and standards (GD & T). Demonstrated ability to manage and complete multiple projects and objectives successfully. Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to influence individuals and groups at all levels of the organization with effective interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Works with minimal supervision, establishes priority and meets scheduled completion dates. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be able to read, write and interpret the English language. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. SolidWorks and or CAM knowledge a plus. Experience creating custom applications and GUIs with Microsoft Visual Studio. Experience with stored procedures and database design in Microsoft SQL Server. Experience with basic webpage scripting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Create/modify MasterCAM manufacturing solid models to define the process as needed. Perform research, design and development of process parameters, including material flow, venting and cooling paths in injection molding dies. Understand and interpret complex part drawings and design intent, using ASME Y14.5 2009 standards and drawing tolerances. Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new or revised products, including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results. Use appropriate project management techniques to ensure tools, gauges, fixtures, equipment, routings and CMM/CNC/EDM programs are fully defined, documented and implemented. Design, develop, test or source and cost‑justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods of equipment and molds. Perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency improvement. Manage and maintain the accuracy of the S&W manufacturing routing database including operation sequence and description, labor hours, set‑up and changeover times and machine cycle times as well as appropriate work instructions where applicable. Work closely with multiple groups of diverse interest (Product Engineering, Marketing, Production, Quality, Purchasing, Accounting, etc.) while maintaining project focus. Review and validate mold designs with suppliers during the initial mold validation stage, and coordinate repairs and design changes of injection molds. Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment Within our facilities, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing and distribution operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards. PPE Requirements Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor.
