Boston Whaler - Laminator I

Position Overview As part of the Boston Whaler team, a fiberglass laminator applies fiberglass to a mold to create components for boats. The laminator ensures the mold is fully covered with resin-saturated fiberglass matting, removes air bubbles, and handles two-part molds. Mixing resins, removing cured product, and operating handling equipment are also part of the duties. Essential Functions Ensure required parts and raw materials are ready for scheduled runs. Arrange material in the order or pattern specified by documentation. Spray fiberglass and lay sheets of fiberglass on part molds. Press layers into place and use rollers to smooth wrinkles or voids. Operate fiberglass chop guns, handheld tools, and rollers. Measure and apply gel coat and fiberglass with masker gauge. Maintain clean and tidy material and storage area. Participate in continuous‑improvement and cost‑saving initiatives. Participate in EH&S and quality initiatives. Operate material‑handling equipment such as platform trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, or overhead hoists. Wear personal protective equipment as required (respirators, gloves, aprons, suits). Required Qualifications High‑school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to read, interpret, and follow verbal or written instructions. Preferred Qualifications Proactive team player with a self‑starter attitude and attention to improvement. Strong reasoning skills for troubleshooting system discrepancies and errors. Basic reading and writing skills and ability to work from instructions. High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with diverse people. Good physical stamina and ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, climb, and lift up to 35 lb. Familiarity with MS Office, MRP software, and modern warehousing practices. Experience in a shop‑floor environment and exposure to high temperatures, chemicals, and noise. Working Conditions The position is in a shop floor environment where workers are exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise is usually moderate with occasional spikes. The work area can be hot and humid, especially during summer months. Pay & Benefits Pay range: $18.59 to $28.30 hourly, with actual base pay varying by qualifications, experience, and location.
