As a Transportation Engineer, you will be a key part of our design team working on our district's major and high-profile projects. This position requires a strong engineering background, knowledge and experience. Position Description: Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Essential Duties: Assists project managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters. Represents the district/division at various meetings Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for transportation projects. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. Experience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Prof Engineer* *Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in OpenRoads Design software is preferred. Competencies: Considerable knowledge of Hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirement Construction phasing and sequencing Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities Design and plan preparation methods and requirements Cost estimating and cost controls Proficient skill in Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities Performing basic design and drafting Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions Subject to noise Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other devices Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs. Walking, standing, and crouching on various surfaces without falling, and bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist. Expressing or exchanging ideas through spoken words and perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels to receive, understand, and communicate information through oral communication.
