This role partners closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and other senior leaders to drive excellence in patient outcomes, staff development, and operational efficiency. The Director holds 24/7 accountability for assigned nursing areas and ensures compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and administrative leadership for behavioral health nursing units.
- Support the CNO in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care delivery and performance metrics.
- Oversee staff competency, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives.
- Promote evidence-based psychiatric nursing practices aligned with hospital standards and patient safety protocols.
- Manage departmental budgets, staffing levels, and resource allocation to optimize patient care and efficiency.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration between nursing, psychiatry, social work, and ancillary departments.
- Monitor compliance with state, federal, and Joint Commission regulations.
- Act as a clinical role model, mentor, and advocate for nursing professionalism and patient-centered care.
- Lead quality improvement projects focused on behavioral health safety, patient experience, and outcomes.
- Participate in strategic planning and hospital-wide initiatives as part of the nursing leadership team.
- Education:
- Associate degree in Nursing with a Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field or BSN required.
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related healthcare discipline required.
- Licensure:
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Massachusetts.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of progressive hospital management experience (Manager or Director level).
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing required.
- Certifications:
- CPR Certification required.
- Additional behavioral health or leadership certifications (e.g., PMH-BC, ANCC) preferred.
- Skills:
- Proven leadership and staff management abilities.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric care standards and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex, high-acuity environment.
