Job Title: Composite Technician II / III

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work in a brand-new aerospace manufacturing facility, performing hands-on composite plying, layup, fabrication, and assembly tasks on advanced structures. Pay will be based on experience but typically between $40-$50 (can be higher with the right experience). The primary schedule is a day shift from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with overtime available.

As a Composite Technician II or III, you will work primarily on day shift, supporting critical aerospace components by reading and interpreting work instructions, preparing molds, laminating pre-preg materials, and assembling high-precision parts. You will collaborate closely with experienced technicians, follow detailed engineering documentation, and contribute to the production of high-quality composite structures in a growing team environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret work instructions, work orders, and basic engineering blueprints or drawings to understand job requirements and specifications.
• Prepare and maintain mold surfaces to ensure proper part release and high-quality finishes.
• Perform composite material kitting, organizing and staging materials for efficient layup operations.
• Carry out lamination of pre-preg composite materials, including Kevlar, carbon fiber, and fiberglass, following specified layup sequences and orientations.
• Assemble molds to produce conforming composite structures that meet dimensional and quality requirements.
• Perform vacuum bagging operations on small to medium composite structures, ensuring proper sealing and setup for curing processes.
• Complete trimming operations using fixtures and various hand tools to achieve close tolerances and precise dimensions.
• Use laser-guided ply placement systems to accurately position composite plies according to engineering requirements.
• Inspect work in process to quickly spot and address flaws or defects in raw materials and layups.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace to protect parts from foreign materials and contamination.
• Follow safety procedures and handle machinery and equipment with care, prioritizing a safety-minded approach in all tasks.
• Collaborate with higher-level technicians and team members to ensure consistent quality and adherence to production schedules.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience performing composite plying, layup, fabrication, and assembly tasks in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions, work orders, and basic engineering blueprints or drawings.
• Hands-on experience with lamination of pre-preg composite materials, including Kevlar, carbon fiber, and fiberglass.
• Proficiency in mold surface preparation and maintenance to support high-quality composite production.
• Experience performing vacuum bagging operations on small to medium composite structures.
• Skill in completing trimming operations using fixtures and various hand tools to achieve close tolerances.
• Ability to use laser-guided ply placement systems for accurate ply positioning.
• High attention to detail, with the ability to accurately place and orient multiple composite plies and quickly identify flaws in materials or layups.
• Strong hand dexterity and coordination, with the ability to perform precise finger movements and hand layup techniques.
• Organizational skills to keep track of various parts and materials throughout the production process.
• Commitment to cleanliness and maintaining a contamination-free work area to protect sensitive composite parts.
• Safety-minded approach, with a focus on proper care and operation of machinery and equipment.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance as required by assigned programs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Aerospace manufacturing experience or working with flight control components such as rudders and elevons.
• Experience supporting complex aerospace programs and working within highly regulated environments.
• Familiarity with inspection practices and basic quality control methods for composite parts.
• Exposure to mechanical assembly and integration of composite structures.
• Comfort working with blueprints and technical documentation in a production setting.
• Interest in professional growth within a team that offers increasing responsibilities and development opportunities.

This is a Permanent position based out of Santa Ana, CA.

The pay range for this position is $91520.00 - $104000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
