Research Scientist - Computed Tomography (Orange, OH)

Position Title: Research Scientist – Computed Tomography (Orange, OH) Location: Orange, OH, United States Employment type: Full‑time, office‑based (minimum 3 days per week onsite). Travel up to 10% may be required. Responsibilities Develop physics‑based solutions and corrections to advance image quality in CT imaging, with a focus on photon‑counting systems. Apply a system‑level engineering approach to design CT/X‑ray imaging features, covering signal and image processing, reconstruction, and calibration. Investigate and resolve image‑quality issues during product introduction and from the installed base, communicating findings to stakeholders. Deliver safe, effective, well‑documented solutions informed by rigorous data analysis. Develop and enhance R&D tools for physics‑based simulation and image formation, including benchmarks, data‑flow requirements and software requirement specifications. Work primarily in MATLAB, with growing use of Python and optional C++ for performance‑critical components. Maintain expertise in CT physics and advanced processing algorithms, prioritising photon‑counting CT, spectral, dual‑energy, multi‑energy, and cone‑beam CT to improve material differentiation and image‑quality optimisation. Own the CT imaging physics roadmap and coordinate with clinical, marketing and systems teams to align innovation with business strategy. Stay current on emerging technologies such as AI/deep‑learning, contribute to intellectual property and publications, and represent the company in regulatory and industry engagements. Qualifications 3+ years of professional and graduate‑level research experience in physics or medical imaging, with a preference for CT and/or X‑ray imaging. Minimum Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, biomedical, electrical, nuclear engineering or related field; background in medical image‑formation theory and reconstruction is preferred. Strong technical expertise in CT/X‑ray imaging, signal and image processing, reconstruction, calibration and systems‑level/scanner understanding. Differentiating skills include experience with photon‑counting and/or spectral CT (dual‑/multi‑energy), cone‑beam CT, physics‑based simulation and hands‑on prototype or scanner work. Proficiency in MATLAB (primary) and Python, with optional C++ and experience with GUI and C‑MEX; familiarity with AI/deep‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to document and explain complex algorithms, imaging‑chain trade‑offs and cross‑functional impacts to non‑specialists.
