Huron is home to the South Dakota State Fairgrounds and sits about 55 miles from DeSmet, known for its Laura Ingalls Wilder historic sites. The city offers access to Ravine Lake and Memorial Park, and it is about 2 hours from Sioux Falls for additional dining, shopping, and regional air travel. Outdoor recreation includes fishing and boating on nearby Lake Byron and hiking at Maga Ta-Hohpi Waterfowl Production Area, both within about 30 miles of Huron.
