Position Summary This recruitment is for two (2) UNC Police Officer position(s). By applying, you will be considered for both position(s): #20013744 and #00056008. The UNC Police Officer protects and serves the students, faculty, staff and visitors through law enforcement and crime prevention. Responsibilities include campus patrol, investigating complaints and violations of laws and local ordinances, and implementing preventative patrol techniques to deter crime and promote safety. This role uses Community Oriented Policing principles and may include specialized duties. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Minimum of High School diploma or GED. At least probationary certification from the NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer and successful completion of the appointing agency’s designated field training program for newly appointed Campus Police Officers. Lateral hires must meet certification requirements; out-of-state lateral hires must be NC CJETSC certification eligible. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Must be at least 20 years old at time of appointment. Possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License. Pass an in-depth background investigation (driver’s history, criminal history with no felonies), psychological testing, polygraph, drug screening, and an in-depth interview. Successfully complete a three-week department orientation and a twelve-week field training program during probation; complete the state-mandated probationary period. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Designated as an Essential Emergency Duty Employee; must report as required during adverse events or emergencies. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Department strongly prefers candidates who possess an Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited community college or university. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Must meet physical and psychological requirements of the NC Criminal Education and Standards Commission, including a physical exam, psychological exam, and drug test. A polygraph examination is required. Position involves subduing resisting suspects, driving in emergency conditions, pursuing suspects, searches, and using force as appropriate with independent judgment. Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority per the Clery Act. The role requires reporting Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and completing annual training about reporting responsibilities.
