AI/ML SME (TS / SCI)

About the Role Culmen International is hiring an AI / ML SME to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Division. The purpose of this position is to provide direct AI / ML SME (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) assistance to the Office of Science and Engineering, Technology Centers Division, Advanced Computing Branch, Cybersecurity Research Area in its efforts to identify, prevent, protect, detect, and defend against intrusions to AI / ML systems and networks. What You’ll Do in Your New Role Provide technical, managerial, and administrative direction for problem definition, analysis, requirements development, and implementation for complex to extremely complex systems in the subject matter area. Make recommendations and advise on organization‑wide system improvements, optimization or maintenance efforts in the following specialties: information systems architecture; networking; telecommunications; automation; communications protocols; risk management/electronic analysis; software; lifecycle management; software development methodologies; and modeling and simulation. Critically assess and evaluate survey papers, technical reports, findings, and conclusions to identify trajectory of research. Assist in coordinating with experts from multiple agencies to analyze activities. Provide significant technical input into policies, procedures, and technology development. Commensurate experience in IT and in new and related older technology that directly relates to the required area of expertise. Ability to travel domestically (up to 10% of time). Ability to write, prepare, and present high-quality informative technical content at speaking engagements (live and online). Provide AI / ML assistance to AI / ML related programs. Required Qualifications Master’s Degree or PhD + 15 years of experience with a degree in Computer Science with focus in AI / ML, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering with focus in AI / ML, Computational sciences / engineering degree. 10+ years direct applied significant hands‑on experience in software/hardware and/or network development [not help‑desk experience]. DoD 8570 Baseline Certification levels (IAT/IAM/IASAE levels II or III). Industry certification(s): Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) Knowledge/experience in system development methodologies and system engineering lifecycle. Knowledge of various AI / ML policies (global and domestic), strategies, framework, directives, standards, and guidelines. Currently possess and maintain personal competence in AI / ML tools, techniques, procedures, policies, and technologies. Ability to provide AI / ML SME assistance in identifying research opportunities. Ability to provide understanding of current and emerging AI / ML threats and mitigation techniques and approaches. Ability to provide AI / ML SME assistance in identifying emerging cyber technologies. Ability to provide AI / ML SME assistance in Budget Execution; Review of potential gaps, deficiencies and requirements for new research and development efforts; and coordination of AI / ML related research and development activities within other Homeland Security Enterprise equities, other S&T Divisions, academia, and industry. Ability to work autonomously in identifying, solving, and reporting on Research and Development topics, as needed, for the Homeland Security Enterprise. Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI. Primary remote work with possible travel to conferences and meetings at DC HQ.
