Registered Nurse - CVICU

Job Summary:

Registered Nurse (RN - CVICU) provides high-acuity postoperative and transitional care for cardiac surgery patients in a critical care environment. The role focuses on hemodynamic monitoring, advanced therapies, and evidence-based management to support safe recovery and readiness for step-down care.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver immediate post-surgical and ongoing CVICU nursing care with defined patient ratios (1:1 and 1:2 as appropriate).
• Monitor vital signs, hemodynamics, and clinical status, escalating changes per unit protocols.
• Manage advanced cardiac support therapies, including balloon pump and Impella (per credentialing and training).
• Perform complex assessments, titrate care plans, and coordinate interventions with the care team.
• Document patient care and clinical progress in Meditech Expanse with accurate, timely records.
• Collaborate during a new cardiac surgery program launch, supporting workflow and quality initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Hold an active RN license for multi-state practice as required.
• Possess 2+ years of direct experience caring for fresh cardiac surgery patients with primary recovery responsibilities.
• Demonstrate proficiency with ACLS and other critical care competencies relevant to CVICU.
• Show training/experience with balloon pump and Impella (or be able to demonstrate readiness per hiring requirements).
• Complete hemodynamic monitoring requirements with Hemosphere or Acumen experience preferred.
• Maintain strong teamwork skills to float to areas while sustaining the unit's expected care ratios.
