Job Title: FOOD SERVICE GENERAL WORKER – DANIA ELEMENTARY Requisition ID: 22628 | Hourly Rate: $15.84 | Hours Per Day: 5.5 hours | Posting Start Date: 7/2/26 Position Goal To perform skilled work in the preparation and service of nutritionally adequate, reimbursable meals and be responsible for meeting production deadlines and ensuring the quality of food products. Essential Performance Responsibilities Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning. Participate in ongoing state‑approved training and educational initiatives related to Food & Nutrition Services including Foundations of School Food Service, Nutrition, Quantity Cooking, and Sanitation class. Demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service, using good judgment and professionalism when interacting with the general public, students, parents, and staff. Operate point‑of‑sale systems according to federal guidelines when assigned. Adhere to food safety rules, departmental procedures, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), ensuring a safe work environment. Perform kitchen duties as assigned, including pre‑preparation, food production, service, backup, cleanup, and check‑in orders as needed. Assist in ensuring meal service is safe and that good quality food is served according to approved meal pattern requirements at the appropriate times. Assist with ordering, proper storage, and inventories for all supplies and food items received. Follow written recipes and instructions for food preparation, record time, amounts used in preparation, leftovers, and temperature on production worksheets. Operate food service equipment safely. Maintain a clean work environment by removing and disposing of garbage and waste. Ensure sanitation practices, including compliance with personal hygiene and grooming standards. Perform necessary cleaning of food service equipment and facilities that does not require climbing. Drive vans to satellite sites for food delivery, gas, and cleaning as directed. Drive refrigerated/freezer trucks between sites. Perform duties in compliance with equal employment and non‑discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida. Participate in training programs offered to enhance individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities. Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities. Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures. Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee. Minimum Qualifications & Experience Prior food service or cashier work experience. Ability to follow directions, read, and communicate in English. Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, school administrators, and other Food & Nutrition service personnel. Computer skills as required for the position. Preferred Qualifications & Experience A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program. Valid Florida Driver’s License. Bilingual skills. Significant Contacts Interacts daily with Food and Nutrition Services employees, students, district administrators, and others to ensure departmental goals are met in providing nourishing meals that support student achievements. Physical Requirements Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds as needed; average lifting up to 30 pounds. Terms of Employment Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
