Provides direct and indirect supervision to all subordinate managers and employees at a site. This includes long-term planning, objective setting, policy formation, interpretation and management while providing latitude and discretion to subordinates. Has overall P&L responsibility for site operations. Work requires investigating and resolving a wide variety of highly unusual conditions that carry long-term implications. Requires developing new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs or techniques and utilizing them to analyze and interpret difficult problems or situations and/or establishing new strategic direction that is site or multi-site specific. Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Has overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods and employees in a functional area. Makes final decisions on administrative and operational matters in area of responsibility to ensure achievement of objectives. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of business unit operations. Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers. Assigns objectives, reviews performance and approves employee compensation, coaches for improved performance. Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions normally involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers. May represent the organization in public speaking venues and/or community events. Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following: Manages all functions including manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain with a strong focus on quality and inventory and materials management. Manages dotted line relationships with Finance, Human Resources, IT, and other support functions. Provide functional direction to all indirect areas supporting site business. Manages the facility with responsibility for the operations of the building including maintenance, security, safety, cleanliness, etc. Manages transitions to new scales of operations. Manage New Product Introductions and Product Transfers. Understands the business opportunities or conditions that drive high utilization for the facility and using the appropriate judgement to make the right selection. Balances the creation of an empowered culture with the need to follow up closely enough to ensure high standards of execution. Instills in the management team a focus on Operations Excellence through flawless execution i.e., detail and discipline in an environment of increasing complexity by utilizing World Class Manufacturing practices and 6 Sigma quality initiatives. Applys best practices aligned to the appropriate operations model(s) for the facility. Know and Grow the Business - Understands the trends, challenges and changes in the industry. Knows the major competitors and how they position themselves. Is opportunistic in taking advantage of new markets, tools, technologies and processes for competitive advantage. Can lead new business units from concept to production Customer Focused - Operates as an extension of the customer’s organization. Physical Demands Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc. Duties may require periodic sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Occasional overnight travel is required. Typical Experience Twelve plus years of relevent experience Typical Education Bachelor's degree in related field or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Engineering degree or equivalent preferred, MBA an asset.
